RACE 6
5 – Kapakri
He raced from the back of the field last time and ran on for second place by half a length. This was at 1500m, and his wins have been at distances 1800m and greater, prep race? He has placed second up but has no wins. He has won at this race track—he is a top jockey to ride.
3 – Age of Sail
His first race after the layoff was an adventure. This start wasn’t good, bothered by two other horses, and they didn’t finish the race well either. He’s never won at this distance but placed three out of his four tries, and this is the exact record second up. He is going up in the distance.
10 – So Newchee Thinks
Since the layoff, he’s raced three times, won two races, and finished third in his first start. He moves up in class and distance today. He ran from the back of the field last time with the wide starting post. He got a better post position today, so watch what the bettors think.
RACE 7
7 – Shangri La Express
He showed speed in his first start after a layoff and backed up to run fifth. He was overmatched in his last listed race and didn’t run. He is back to a level where he should be more competitive but hasn’t run the distance before. The winning jockey returns to the saddle with five starts, two wins, and two placings with the horse. First-timer blinkers may also help.
2 – Bunker Hut
He ran fourth as the favorite last time at Rosehill at this level after running second three times since layoff. He has a win at this distance but also has seven placings. He should sit close to the pace and have enough to get a placing.
11 – Step Aside
Toss his last race, the rider was unseated and broke through the inner rail after being bumped by another horse. This was his first start after a layoff. He’s shown in the past that he can win first up and has also placed second up. The distance is good; he’s won three times and has been at this racecourse once. Changing riders will help; he needs to get a better trip.
Race 8
9 – Accredited
A winner of his last three races, he is moving into group company for the first time. He’s shown speed in his races and got himself in trouble the previous race, but maybe 1400m isn’t the best trip for him. He’s had different jockeys in his three wins. I am taking the in-form horse to get a group three victory here.
7 – Disneck
He comes into this race off a second-place run in a barrier trial. He has won three at this distance at lower levels and tried the group level before without success. Maybe against this bunch, he will finally get a placing, but he prefers the firm going, so…watch the board. He went off the favorite the last time he ran.
2 – Brudenell
He ran third last time at this distance in a listed race. He was blocked at the end of the race and could have won. He’s good at this distance and has won or placed in his three races at this racecourse. I think he’s coming to form, and I can’t leave him on my ticket.
RACE 9
15 – No Drama
He hasn’t raced in five months but has a good record at this distance and is taking a slight class rise. He has won first up three out of his six tries but has not won at this racecourse. He has post position one but has tactical speed, so sitting third or fourth is possible. I will put it on top.
7 – With Your Blessing
He won his last race off a layoff at this level, going 1100m. A change was made to the equipment, which took the blinkers off. He’s won twice at today’s distance, but I look at his second-up numbers, and I think he is better at running in the money than winning.
5 – Overriding
He will run much better today than last time with the wide starting post, which is a much better starting position. He had to shift behind runners and finished midpack in a listed race. He takes a drop here, won his barrier trial, and ran fourth in the other. He’s won twice, first up.
RACE 10
3 – Bel Air
He won two starts back at the BM 90 at 1400m, and his last race was at the listed level. He finished eighth, coming from seventeenth. He’s never run at this race course or distance but has won at 1600m. He starts from position post one and does have the practical speed that was shown in the win.
6 – Matusalem
He won two races at the BM78 level and then tried Group One company, which failed. He’s run to average in two barrier trials to prepare for this race. He’s placed two times first up. He has won at this distance and this race course.
8 – Yorkshire
He’s run in the money with four wins in all of his races. He won 1300m, 1350m & 1400m, but not this distance. He will be forwardly placed, and the post position helps. He’s a big favorite in his last run and will get a bet today. The only questions are racecourse and distance.

10 – SO NEWCHEE THINKS – makes big moves late, extra distance helps – loves the wet going
1 – OUR ANCHORAGE – 3rd up – 2/2 at the distance – soft works
5 – KAPAKIRI – better in 2nd up – closer that runs well wet too
11 – DECADENT TALE – Tom horse – win – nah, ITM, especially on a wet track
Race 7: CAPTIVANT @ KIA ORA HANDICAP – 12:00 am ET
9 – STARMAN – never off the board on soft of at the distance
14 – LADY BOSS – speed – up a little in class, 2nd up and another that likes soft footing
8 – MOGWAI – 3rd up and can win with multiple running styles
2 – BUNKER HUT – probably the most consistent performer
Race 8: SCHWEPPES SOUTHERN CROSS STAKES – G3 – 12:35 am ET
2 – BRUDENELL – finally healthy, 3rd up for first time in a year, strong at the distance
5 – WILLAIDOW – runs well 1st up – key here is the soft footing 8/5-1-0
9 – ACCREDITED – likely FAV – but yet to win on a wet track
4 – WATEGOS – another in the 1st up – decent enough efforts off the bench – has won at track and distance
Race 9: INGLIS CLASSIC YEARLING SALE 9-11 FEB HANDICAP – 1:15 am ET
14 – SPRING LEE – 2nd up – never off the board on soft – 5/2-2-1
12 – EYE OF THE FIRE – 2nd up – distance – check, track – check – footing – check
15 – NO DRAMA – lots of speed and cutting back in distance is the angle
6 – TIME TO BOOGIE – does well fresh off the bench – small drop
Race 10: TAB HANDICAP – 1:55 am ET
12 – SANDPAPER – 3rd up and was the best of the cycle last time around
13 – SPACE AGE – 2nd up and all of his best work on soft to heavy
8 – YORKSHIRE – even money ML fav – deservedly vs this crew – but took two shots to beat him
5 – LICOLN ROCKS – has 5 career wins – 4 of them in 9 on a soft track
