Aubrie Green Changes Plans

By: Shawn Drupp

Aubrie Green has become a fan favorite at Fairgrounds Racetrack after going to Louisiana to ride after a successful meet at Delaware Park Racecourse over the summer.

Her contagious smile and upbeat personality make her easy to root for. Not to mention, she is one of only two females currently riding at Fairgrounds.

Green has had success and has grown even more as a rider since riding at Fairgrounds. To date she is 11th in wins in the Jockey standings at Fairgrounds for the current meet. Green has won 11% of her races while finishing in the money (ITM) 32% of the time.  Her plan was to stay in Louisiana to ride Evangeline Downs once Fairgrounds was done.

Those plans have changed.

Green made the announcement exclusively to Horse Racing Today.  “I will be going back to ride at Delaware for the summer.  I found some incredible people in Delaware who I want to keep relationships with including Lynn Ashby and Galvan Baltazar. Lynn has become a very important person in my life even in the short time when I was in Delaware last summer. I look forward to being a part of her team again and can’t wait to win races for her. Galvan and I have a comical work relationship, but under his tough talk he’s a great friend and horseman,” said an excited Green.

Aubrie Green finished 10th in wins last summer at Delaware Park with 16 wins in 153 mounts. She won 10% of her races and finished ITM 34% of the time.  It was Green’s first time riding at Delaware Park.

The stats only tell half the story as she got better each and every day. Aubrie states “ I feel like I grew so much as a rider in the last year and riding with a new group of Jockeys was a major contributing factor. In this business we always need to grow.”

Aubrie goes on to say, “A huge factor for this move is that the Northeast offers a lot of opportunity to grow as a rider with multiple tracks to ride at and business that always seems to be moving.”

Jockey Aubrie Green in Green SilksAubrie says this decision was not an easy one. “This is a decision I was very torn about. I truly love Louisiana and the people here. Louisiana is home. I love riding for Bunky Richards, Keith Bourgois, Scotty Gelner (to name a few) who have been loyal to me. I appreciate them more than they know and I look forward to coming back to the Fairgrounds as an even better rider for them next winter,” said an emotional Green.

We wish Aubrie nothing but luck and can’t wait to see her back at Delaware Park.  She is a great person on and off the track. When you see her at the track just ask for a picture or just say hello like I did last summer. When you get to talk to her you’ll see why she is a fan favorite. Good luck Aubrie!
