22 to 1 Tom’s Tips

Deauville

Race 4 – 2:49

Prix du Calvados (Group 2) (2yo Fillies) (Straight Course) (Turf) (2yo) 7f

5 – Classic Flower – Draw 2

The last race ran second at this racecourse at 1400m coming from last at the top of the lane and running wide.

A winner of 2 races at minor tracks before moving up in class to run third in a Group 2 last out.

Will the straight course be better for her in this race?

Cristian Demuro has other options to ride in this race but pick her.

7 – Eclaire La Vie – Draw 5

The last race was at Newmarket at 1400m, and she ran third behind to top 2yo Fallen Angel at 40-1

A novice race winner jumps up into the Group 3 last out.

Richard Hughes must have seen something in that race to suggest this is a good spot for her.

She picks up the top rider in France – Maxime Guyon

2 – Lauine – Draw 7

Hung on to beat Classic Flower last out by 1/2L at 1400m.

She has won the last three races and two of them at 1400m

She will be the favorite in this race.

Race 5 – 3:25

Prix de Pomone (Group 2) (3yo+ Fillies & Mares) (Round Course) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m4½f

4 – Manisha – Draw 8

She ran third last out at Chantilly on the good to soft going.

Tries long distance today but looking at her record, she has one start at this distance and one win.

Is this a horse who wants longer-distance races? The mother did.

3 – Melo Melo – Draw 3

All good races this season and the last one was a winning effort.

Her races have been on the heavy or very soft going this season.

This is a step up for her but going well now and I see that continuing.

9 – Golden Lyra – Draw 10

Exciting placement for this horse in this race by William Haggas.

Her two races this season have been very average at best.

Now ship her over, change of track?

Add distance from the last two races but she won at this distance before on the all-weather.

Does this track better suits her running style?

Longshot.

Curragh

Race 4 – 3:27

Coolmore Stud Wootton Bassett Irish EBF Futurity Stakes (Group 2) (2yo) 7f

3 – Islandinthestream – Draw 2

He Won at the Curragh last out at 7F but dwelt at the start, ran green, hung left until he figured it out, and went to win by a length at 9-1.

Portland ran third in that race.

A better race and now some experience my result in a nice win again.

2 – Henry Longfellow – Draw 3

The favorite in his last race, won by 1 3/4L over the soft going.

It appears that he was only asked to move near the end of the race.

Ryan Moore/Aiden O’Brien has won a few races in the past.

5 – Spanish Flame – Draw 1

He Won the last two races all at 7 1/2F by a neck and by 6L in the race before.

The first start at the Curragh appears he will get a placing in this race.

Race 5 – 4:00

Alpha Centauri Debutante Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies) (2yo) 7f

2 – Dollerina – Draw 3

Ran second in her only start behind an Aiden O’Brien horse who made all the running.

Was at the rear of the field, moved up in with 2F to go, was a bit green and edged right, and got up for second.

Learning experience?

Hold her in the back to make one run or closer to the pace and see if she finishes. I would stay with the pace with a good break from the gate.

7 – Snellen – Draw 2

Won last start at Royal Ascot, beating Pearls And Rubies by a head at 7F.

She would first start at Limerick by 3/4L.

She is 2 for 2 and will be right there at the end.

Does the head bob in her favor again?

8 – Vespertilio – Draw 8

Steady at the start in her last race, made up ground and then switch to the right, bothered by another horse, and still ran second with some drama.

Jockey’s comment was she “overexaggerated he move”. How about running a bit green?

The winner ran on the frontend and maybe the best horse 2yo in Aiden O’Brien’s barn.

Randwick

Race 8 – 6:45

Winx Stakes (Group 1) (3yo+) (Turf) (3yo+) 7f

10 – Major Beel – Draw 10

Won a Group 1 last out at 2400m for first Group 1 win.

He has been away for 139 days and has two trials where he ran second in both races.

He won his last race on the heavy going and has a record of 3 starts 1 win 2 placings.

In his two attempts in group company, he has a win and second.

Never ran at this distance but in form and why not.

2 – Zaaki – Draw 8

Not much last out in Group 1 at Doomben at 2000m. He just didn’t run and needed time off, well it’s been 90 days since the last race.

Good second in the trial for today’s race.

His overall record is 43 starts, 15 wins (4 are Group 1) 15 placings

Two wins from 7 tries at the distance.

4 starts on the heavy going with two wins and 1 placing.

If the trial is any indication, he not done racing yet.

16 – Hinged – Draw 5

Fourth last out in Group 1 at Randwick, came charging home and just missed getting a placing.

Took 132 days off and comes back off two trials that would call useful.

On the heavy going, she has 5 starts 2 wins 2 placings.

At this distance, 5 starts 3 wins 1 placing.

At the racecourse and distance, she has 3 starts 1 win 1 placing.

Those are pretty good stats and she has won first up.

Rich’s Ranks

Deauville – soft

Race 4: Prix du Calvados

2 – LAULNE – won last three all on soft including 7f at Deauville last out in the highest rated race for these

5 – CLASSIC FLOWER – finished 2nd by a ½ length to top pick in last – 3rd up

6 – LES BLEUS – a well beaten third – but the race rating was as good as LAULNE’S Group 3 w – third up

3 – LES PAVOTS – is only ¾ a length from winning 3 of 4  – by the looks of it, the longer the race the better

Race 5: Prix de Pomone

8 – LA MEHANA – is all or nothing on turf 8/4-0-0 and 1-1 at the distance last out on soft

1 – BAIYKARA – has a pair of necks from winning three of four at the distance

4 – MANISHA – could improve in second up – 7 HQ starts in last 9 races

10 – OTTERY – won going away in the first time going this long in her last race – a Group 3 win

Curragh – Good

Race 4: Coolmore Stud Wootton Bassett Irish EBF Futurity Stakes

3 – ISLANDSINTHESTREAM – won his maiden with the fastest 7f time for these by about 2 seconds

2 – HENRY LONGFELLOW – well bet in his debut for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore – easy win

5 – SPANISH FLAME –  won his last by a neck, the horse he beat came back to win his next start, possibly a key race

Race 5: Alpha Centauri Debutante Stakes

7 – SNELLEN – unbeaten in a pair, both at the distance and be PEARLSANDRUBIES

5 – PEARLSANDRUBIES – seems to prefer firmer footing where she is a head from winning both

2 – DOLLERINA – finished 2 ¾ lengths behind YLANG YLANG in her debut, YLANG YLANG defeated VESPERTILIO in last – a toss up between the two

8 – VESPERTILIO  – rallied for a piece of the exacta and trifecta in her first two, a little faster start could be the difference maker

Randwick – Soft 7

Race 8: Winx Stakes

2 – ZAAKI – soft 6/1-2-1, track 6/2-2-0, has run well first up

10 – MAJOR BEEL – bombs away, should sit right off the pace, has some late legs, 1 for 1 at the track, soft 4/2-1-1

8 – OSIPENKO – should be mid-pace, capable of a big late move has a Group 2 win

1 – THNIK IT OVER – won 8 of 19 at Randwick – and 4 of 16 elsewhere – horse for the course
