#4 Borracho: He’s been a different horse since first being tried at seven furlongs in May. The fact that he’s run three strong races at the distance (103, 105 and 111 ascending Equibase Speed Figures) at three different tracks is further proof that he’s come into his own. The replay to watch is the Woody Stephens where he bided his time a little too long and ended up getting blocked behind a ton of traffic when the real running started in the stretch. He then got shut off when Hog Creek Hustle rallied and came across, which forced Mind Control to take up into Borracho’s path. Even after tipping out to make a run, Borracho again was cut off by Nitrous as he was rallying. It was clear that Borracho still had plenty in the tank and, in spite of everything he encountered, he was still only a length beaten that day. The way he came back and made easy work of a nice allowance field last out at Saratoga does inspire confidence in his ability at this distance and over this track. One thing to keep in mind is that #1 Shancelot looks like the goods here. Barring an epic regression by him, this field might all be chasing second. That said, there’s still an opportunity to make some money in this racing with Borracho.

#3 Secret Message: This filly is simply in the best form of her career and a testament to an incredible training job by Graham Motion. In three races in 2019, she’s advanced from stakes winner to graded stakes winner to fourth-place finisher in an extremely tough Grade 1 behind top divisional foes Sistercharlie, Rushing Fall and Homerique. What made that last performance all the more impressive was that she checked badly just as she was gathering up momentum and making a rally up the rail. She still managed to regroup and pass a few tired horses, and would’ve naturally finished a lot closer to the winner had she not steadied. She also gets the services of top local pilot Jose Ortiz on Saturday despite his go-to trainer Chad Brown having three entrants in this race.
