Grade II San Felipe and the Santa Anita Handicap 2025

The grade II $300,000 San Felipe Stakes

Saw an outstanding performance by the 3-year-old colt Journalism, by Curlin out of Mopotism  (Uncle Mo) put in what might be another exclamation heading into the 2025 Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May, which is seeing a very talented number of 3-year-olds vying for the run for the roses.

Journalism made his 3-year-old debut a winning effort in what was an upset to race favorite Barnes trained by Bob Baffert. Barens himself headed into the race undefeated he was making his debut around two turns, when Journalism came a calling and ran him down in the stretch to win the grade II event.

After they turned into the stretch it seemed like it was all Barnes and would set himself well heading towards the Kentucky Derby but all of sudden Journalism with a very good turn of foot took his sight set on Barnes and collared him in the final furlong.
Barnes held second well ahead of stablemate Rodriguez third and other stablemate Melencamp.
With the scratch of Berlin Wall and with the new Derby points rules the points were cut from the expected 50,25,15,10,5 that meant the points totals were as follows 37 1/2, 17 1/2, 11 1/4, 7 1/2, 3 3/4.
Journalism now has enough points moving forward to get into the gate in May for the Derby which he now has 47 1/2 points, the others in the race will have to regroup moving forward to try and get enough points to get in.
Journalism has improved his record to 3- 0 -1 from 4 starts with earnings of $ 333,880.
Journalism was ridden to victory by Umberto Rispoli, he is trained by Michael McCarthy and is owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Bridlewood Farm, Don AlBerto  Stable.
