RACE 7
5 – Beautiful Love
She started her career in the UK with some success. She was to Dubai with one win. The collective trainers/owners decided the flat tracks in the States were the better place to run her. Her race at Aqueduct was the only win so far, and she was left at the gate and made up 15 lengths. She had chances to shift out and get through in the Breeders Cup race but didn’t have that finishing kick. She will be short odds and William Buick. The trainer’s record with horses more than 90 days away from the races is 69% in the money with his runners.
RACE 9
11 – Bold Act
His lifetime record is good, with 17 starts, seven wins, three seconds, and four thirds. He wants a distance, and this race suits him. He has never started a race well but gets into position quickly, and with Buick on board, he will get the horse into a good place for the midpack running. I can’t see leaving him off my ticket, and he has won at a long layoff in Dubai. Win?
RACE 12
7 – Nations Pride
His last race was in Bahrain, and it was a clunker. He was never in the race and lost by 20 lengths (his other race in Bahrain wasn’t much better). He will sit behind the leaders and will have some left at the end. One of my questions is about distance; with the tight turf course at Gulfstream, will he want a bit more distance, or will he be placed well enough to get through in time? He will see plenty of betting action, but is he the winner, or will he make an in-the-money run?
ROYAL RANDWICK
RACE 5
2 – Don Diego De Vega
He won his barrier trial for the prep race. He won his last start at this level. After he was gelded, he ran two races with a second and a win. He won two races in France before being shipped over to Australia. He will be the favorite, and my only question is, he’s never run this distance—an interesting place for his return.
3 – Political Debate
Drop a bit in class; at a distance, he has placed twice on three starts. He’s only won a maiden race but has raced in group races without success (he hasn’t won in two years). I don’t see him winning this race, but he has a chance of placing.
5 – Father’s Day
He may need a race after layoff before he wins, but he can get a place in this race. He’s won at this distance and placed two from six first-up starts. He should show speed in the race and will have enough at the end.
RACE 6
12 – Puntin
Two races, two wins. This is a step up, but he’s run this distance and will be in the lead. In the last race, he had an outside barrier but overcame it without much effort. I don’t know what he faced, but he went off the favorite in his first two races and is at 6-1 right now.
3 – Genzano
He returns to the races after being away for seven months. He ran twice before the break at the listed and group levels and did nothing. Before that, he won three races in a row, including a group three race. His barrier trial was ok; maybe this class level will return him to form.
8 – Imposant
She’s run second twice since her return to the races at this level. Both races were at the 1300m distance, and she had come on at the end. She’s won at this distance but must overcome the inside draw. She is certainly in form.
RACE 7
4 – Salisano
She returned to the races with a win last time after being off for seven months at the BM72 level. Before the layoff, her races were close to losing by significant margins. She has six starts at this distance and four wins. If she runs another strong front-running effort, she will win from the inside draw. However, the favorite is also a frontrunner, so let’s take a chance she is better at this distance because the favorite adds 100m.
6 – Super Bright
She returned to the races with a third place run. Then, she was too far back in the last start and just passed tiring horses. She has won in over a year but has won or placed third up in three of her five races and has done well at the distance with two wins and five placings from ten starts.
7 – Cosmonova
She sat mid-pack last time out but had traffic and a horse shift into her path, causing him not to finish the race as well as she did before. This is her third up, and she won before. In her won try at this distance, she won. If you toss out the last race, she has a chance.
RACE 8
3 – Headley Grange
He won the last time out and shifted into a horse at the start. In his first race back from a layoff, he ran second. His best efforts are running midpack. He moves up in grade off the win, and if the form and reasonable effort continue, he wins versus this bunch.
5 – Noble Conqueror
He won his first start off the layoff at BM72 level at 1300m. In his last start, he broke slowly and didn’t have clear running at the end, so maybe he had a better trip and better results. He ran nine times at this distance with a win and three placings.
RACE 9
5 – Unstopabull
Since his layoff, he’s run third, first, and third, and the win was at this racetrack. He didn’t break well in the last race and tossed his head. He is one of many horses who will sit mid-pack and make his run. He’s done well at this distance with five starts, two wins and two placings.
3 – Able Willie
He ran a good race with issues by bumping a horse when he shifted in but still ran third. He’s a closer, so taking him back in with his starting position is good. He’s only won twice at this distance from eleven tries with the effort last time, and he is ready to roll again.
6 – Boston Rocks
He has run well in the past five races, but according to the racing notes, the last time he put his head up at 800m, he had to be steadied and corrected, and he still ran third. He’s run four times at this distance with one win and one placing.
