Ascot Horse Racing Picks and Analysis

22 to 1 Tom’s Ascot Tips and Commentary

RACE 1

Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group 2) (British Champions Series) Cl1 (3yo+) 2m

9 – The Euphrates

He won last time out at the Curragh in a previous field of thirty horses but a half of lengths. What’s interesting about this horse is that in the first three races of his career, he ran well on the heavy going but has run the last seven on the good going. After the previous race, we now know distance isn’t an issue, but he’s running against his stablemate. Christophe Soumillon gets the mount.

5 – Kyprios

He’s the short-priced favorite because he has yet to be beaten this year. Distance and winning run over Ascot were all in his favor, but is his stablemate, the new distance star in the Aiden O’Brien? I have some questions about the slower going for him, but he keeps winning.

4 – Burdett Road

This horse has a good record over hurdles, winning two out of three races (running second in the other). What’s essential for me in these are long races and against graded company, granted it’s over hurdles. This horse has a good record on the soft going but is going up in class today. He won last timeout but eight-plus lengths at twelve furlongs, so form isn’t a question.

RACE 2

Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) Cl1 (3yo+) 6f

6 – Montassib

On the good going, he returned from a layoff with a win in a group one at Haydock. Before the layoff, on the all-weather, he beat Kinross at Newcastle. This is a straight six-furlong race. He’s raced four times this season and won three of those races. He appears to be softgoing, and this is his best distance.

20 – Flora of Bermuda

She ran okay last time out at Haydock, running fifth and lack room in part of the race. She runs well on the softer-going and should tuck in behind runners looking for cover. She will need some racing luck to get up in time. The post position may be helpful for her.

15 – James’s Delight

After a layoff, he returned to the races with a second at Deauville on the very soft going, missing by a neck. He has shown good form on the soft going but has yet to win a group race from two races. This is a step up in class, but he has form and likes the soft going.

RACE 3

Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m4f

11 – Grateful

She won last time out at ParisLongchamp in a group one by three-quarters of a length on the soft going. She only raced seven times with three wins, but I think she’s improving off the last race. I beautifully breed daughter of the now decent Tepin looks the part for a win again.

3 – Queen Of The Pride

Toss last race, whatever went wrong, and she was eased. The Gosden’s won’t be running her back if she is not working well and ready for a better effort. I think the soft going may make a big difference.

7 – Tiffany

She won in Germany last time out on the good-to-soft going as the favorite. She appears to be very versatile, running on all types of going. I like that she has been forwardly placed in the race and she has the ability to run in the money.

RACE 4

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Sponsored By Qipco) (Group 1) (British Champions Mile) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m

13 – Tamfano

She really impressed me with her last run as the favorite. She won with plenty to spare. She appears to me to be an end-of-year developing 3yo who is now showing what she can do. She won her race before near the lead and had to be ridden at the end. Her race against Sosie at ParisLongchamp showed improvement, running fourth. In form and likes for soft going.

11 – Metropolitan

Won at ParisLongchamp, three starts back on the soft going in group one. Then, they ran him at Royal Ascot on the firm going, and he ran third. His last race was against Charyn at Deauville on the good going by three lengths. The soft going is in his favor today.

5 – Poker Face

He has run only in group races this season with different levels of success. He was pulled up at Royal Ascot and ran second or third against some of the best milers, plus an unexplainable seventh. He ran in a small field last time on the soft going. He’s not going to win, but he can make a big run here. He’s never gone off at big odds for this could be interesting.

RACE 5

Qipco Champion Stakes (British Champions Middle Distance) (Group 1) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m2f

7 – Calandogan

He proved to me that he’s the real deal by his win at Royal Ascot by six lengths. In his last race, he ran a solid second to the City of Troy, the best 3yo in the world. He ran second in one race on the heavy going but really appears to like the soft going and he is the best here. He’s a gelding so he can’t run in races like the Arc. This is his Arc.

9 – King’s Gambit

He runs good races every time except the first race of his career. In his last six races, he has run third, second, second, win, second, and win. The last three races were in group company. He can run from the rear or near the lead, this time near the lead, and that will result in a money run.

8 – Economics

He was an ok 2yo, and ow he’s won all his 3yo races. He’s won on the good to soft last time by a neck over Auguste Rodin. I don’t know which horse will be the favorite.

RACE 6

Balmoral Handicap (Sponsored By Qipco) Cl2 (3yo+) 1m

19 – State Actor

Racing only in Ireland, he ran six times, won two times, second two times, and one third. The last three races have been at one mile in handicap races. He won his maiden on the heavy going at the Curragh. He moves up in class but has the form to win this race.

9 – Mr Professor

He hasn’t raced since Royal Ascot in a handicap like this race. He returns to the races, has won off layoff before, and wins on the soft going. I think he will come into the race ready to go.

15 – Mexicali Rose

An Irish shipper who has basically done his running on the soft going in races at this level or a little better. She has been running at different distances but has shown up with reasonable efforts, and the going is what she appears to want.

Consider:

1 – Holloway Boy

4 – Witch Hunter

3 – Cicero’s Gift

Rich’s Ascot Ranks

Race 1: Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup

4 – BURDETT ROAD – soft record is solid and winner of 1 or 2 at ASCOT

Race 2: Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes

15 – JAME’S DELIGHT – distance 7/5-1-0 and constantly ran on soft

18 – UNEQUAL LOVE – maybe better in 2nd up – win lone ASCOT and performs well on soft

12 – BEAUVATIER – INTM 10/11 races and just runs on soft

Race 3: Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (BC Win and You Are In)

12 – KALPANA – huge jumps in both 2nd ups

7 – TIFFANY – turf 6/4-2-0 – won last pair of 1st ups and crushed in her last soft outing

8 – TIME LOCK – ITM 7/8 at the distance – 2nd up record?

11 – GRATEFUL – looks like a horse coming into form with a G1 win last out

Race 4: Queen Elizabeth II Stakes

6 – PRAGUE – let’s take two shots at beating the chalk – huge crushes on Soft

7 – QUDDWAH – 2 for 2 at ASCOT – distance 4/3-0-0 – won both on soft

1 – CHARYN – hard to argue against his success – maybe 3rd up is a weakness

3 – FACTEUR CHEVAL – quintessential Tom horse – win, nah – ITM – that’s all I’m looking for

Race 5: Qipco Champion Stakes (BC Win and You Are In)

7 – CALANDAGAN – one for one at ASCOT – ITM in all races and can run on any surface

8 – ECONOMICS – winner 2/2 at the distance – won four in a row

1 – ANMAAT – finally healthy horse that’s making 2 starts in a row for the first time since August of 22

9 – KING’S GAMBIT – won last 1st up by 4 – distance 2/1-1-0 and just missed versus a good horse Los Angeles -in this race too

Race 6: Balmoral Handicap

19 – STATE ACTOR – will be coming from mid-pack – smoked in lone race on a wet surface

5 – ELNAJMM – won lone race at ASCOT and signs of life in last

17 – LATTAM – first up is when he is most likely to run his best
