Race 6
7 – Charity Gain
He ran second in his second start, overcoming an outside position and some trouble in the race. He came from far off the pace. Adding distance today, he has a better post position to sit back and make the one run.
6 – Dragon Star
Toss last race, besides having many issues in the running of the race, is on the all-weather at Sha Tin. The Happy Valley race was a much better effort, running second and tracking the leaders, but it still needs to finish. He will make a better effort today and be back at Happy Valley.
11 – Me Time
His last two races have shown improvement even after the summer break. He had some traffic problems in the last race but was finishing the best of all runners to run fourth. If he continues this forward trend, he will have a good race.
Race 7
4 – Grand Nova
With only four career starts, he looked terrible in his first two races and came alive in his last two races, running second and winning by a neck. He ran midpack last time and closed to win. The inside post position is not ideal, but a good break, and he should sit in an excellent position to finish strongly in the race.
10 – Happy Tango
The most experienced runner in the field, with 64 starts, he won at a lower level and then moved up and ran a poor race at this level. This was on the all-weather, and it was a jog around the track. Last time, he dropped back to this distance and ran on for fourth with issues. His post position is good, and he can get an in-the-money finish.
12 – Ruby Sailing
In fourteen starts, he is yet to win. He has run second or third six times. He has only one start at Happy Valley and ran third. He is being switched back and shortened in the distance, which should help. Good post position; let’s see if he gets the trip and runs on in the end.
Race 8
3 – Bright Day
This is his first start in Hong Kong, and he’s been prepped with three barrier trials, winning two of them. His prior races were in Macau (the track has been closed), and he performed well. Initially, my thought was to let him have a start, but reading the comments on his barrier trial, he appears ready for a winning effort.
2 – Celestial Colours
He’s run two good efforts, Sha Tin running second by a head and third. He returns to Happy Valley, where he won once. I have to put in to run in the money off the last two efforts.
10 – Righteous Arion
He been running fourth in his last three starts at this level. He’s going to be at the rear of the field and will have to come wide to get into the money. This is a strange group of horses, so I had to pick one with some form for third.
Race 9
10 – Horsepower
This will be his first start in Hong Kong, and he comes into the race with four barrier trials. He won two of them, including his last one, and placed in the other two trials. He has two wins in Australia and looks to be an interesting prospect.
4 – Red Elegance
He won twice at Happy Valley and placed in five other races in six starts at Happy Valley. His last three efforts were two wins and one second at this distance. He should be the favorite.
1 – Flying High
Last time, he was restrained at the start of the race with some coming together of horses. Later in the race, coming from the back of the field, he showed some promise and ran sixth. He has won at Sha Tin but has yet to be at Happy Valley, with three starts. I think placing him here is interesting and think a good effort is coming.
Race 10
5 – Lucky Encounter
He finished well in his last race to run sixth while five-plus wide. That was his first start of the season, and today is the first time he races at Happy Valley. He’s won five times, and all those wins are at that distance. He has a good post position to have a decent run.
8 – Dancing Code
He’s run fourteen times in Hong Kong and won two times, and both wins were at Happy Valley. He was taken back in the last race to shift over and then made a modest late run. All this last races have been at Sha Tin and the return to Happy Valley is good for me.
1 – Copartner Prance
This is a horse who loves Happy Valley. He has six starts, five wins and one third. After two races at Sha Tin, he returns and gets the inside post and top jockey. He may win again, but I think I have two other horses ready for good efforts.
