Horse Racing Picks and Analysis

It’s British Champions’ Day at Ascot Racecourse, so Tom and Rich have to be there. BAAEED will try to extend his undefeated streak to 11 races. Also, the richest sprint race in the world runs at Royal Randwick racecourse in Australia. We can’t let the $9 million The Everest race run without our picks.

22 to 1 Tom’s Tips

ASCOT

Race 1 – Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group 2) (British Champions Series) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m7f209y

5 – Trueshan

Missed by a neck last out as the big favorite

On a going not to his liking, he ran 3rd at Goodwood to the best stayer in Europe, Kyprios

His most interesting win this season was a Newcastle on the AW carrying top weight of 152 pounds by a narrow margin over the 2nd horse carrying 124 pounds, gutsy performance

Will like the going and Hollie Doyle has been riding him to 6 victories

1 – Coltrane

Beat Trueshan last time out by a neck

Lost to Quickthorn by 14L in previous start

He’s moved up from listed and handicap company to run well (and win) against group company

He one of those still developing stayers at 5yo

Should put a good performance in today

3 – Stratum

Toss last race, 47L behind Coltrane, something went very wrong

This 9yo won once this year going 2 miles 51/2F in handicap at Royal Ascot

22 in the money from 44 starts, they even shipped him to Australia to run in the Melbourne Cup, ran 20th of 23 so not great

He has 3 wins over hurdles and 1 win in a chase

This is tough company but at this price, I will give him a chance and toss the last race

Race 2 – Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) Cl1 (3yo+) 6f

18 – Tenebrism

After an ok run at ParisLongchamp last out at 7F, they are dropping her back to 6F and she gets weight advantage.

She’s mainly been racing at 7F or 8F but her one try at 6F was a winning effort in a group 1

She’s beat the 3yo males before at Deauville and ran 4th in Inspiral at Royal Ascot was at 8F

She was with the leaders for the early part of her last race, moved to 2nd than faded to 5th at the finish

Maybe Aiden O’Brien is now thinking she’s a sprinter and wants 6F or less?

I think so because her last race was a pretty good one to bring her back for this race

2 – Brad The Brief

After 2 wins this season in May, he’s off until now.

Both races were on soft or good to yielding at 6F

He has won 3 times from 5 starts after layoffs but these were at lower levels

This is a step up and face this good bunch of sprinters but that last race was very impressive and appears that this 5yo gelding had found the winning ways

I thought that last race at the Curragh was great and preparing him for this fall run was what is in the plan for him?

5 – Garrus

Last out, ran 3rd to Highfield Princess in group 1 at 6.5F, she very good

Won at Deauville going 6F in group 3 over the good to soft going

Ran a stinker at Royal Ascot against some of these horses

A little time off, switch to Jim Crowley for the ride, get some money here?

Race 3 – Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m3f211y

6 – Sea La Rosa

Won her last 3 races and I really like her run last out on the very soft ParisLongchamp track beating a good group of older horse

This season, she has 5 runs 4 wins 1 second in group 1-2-3 company going from 12F to 14F

And in here only lost, Tom Marquand didn’t ride here.

Nicely developed 4yo who I think is the one to beat here

1 – Albaflora

Toss last race, awful and can after a 4 month break but then her first of the season wasn’t great either

She had a good season last year with in the money finishes in group races

She likes Ascot with 3 starts 1 win 1 second 1 third

By the description of her last race, I think she will be able to get a placing here

11 – Emily Upjohn

Dead last time out verse older makes in race in June, toss

Prior to that race, she won 3 and second 1 from 4 starts

Away since July, she won on debut and after a layoff before but this is a good bunch of older horses to tangle with, so an in the money finish is the way I see her running

Race 4 – Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Sponsored by Qipco) (Group 1) (British Champions Mile) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m

8 – Modern Games

Very impressive win at WO last out beating Ivar very easily. Ivar just ran 2nd last weekend at Keeneland to Annapolis

Ran behind Baaeed in the race before but so has everyone else

The Deauville race at 7F was not long enough for him

But the Chantilly race, the French Derby was too long for him

He is a miler and a BC winner at 2yo

2 – Jadoomi

3 races this season at all wins at 8F and 9F

Started season listed race and ran in 2 group 2 races

These wins were on the good to soft or soft going

I think he’s at the top of his game and has placed before in group 1 races

4 – Tempus

Ran 3rd at Newmarket last out but is was an ok race overall

He won the previous 4 races at 8F in handicap and group 3 company

This is a step up to group 1 company but has 16 stars at the distance and 7 wins 3 seconds and 2 thirds and has won twice at Ascot from 3 races, he placed in the other race

Race 5 – Qipco Champion Stakes (British Champions Middle Distance) (Group 1) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m1f212y

2 – Baaeed

10 for 10 and beaten some of the best at 8F and then last out at 10.5F

Last time by 6 1/2L and wasn’t really asked to do much just go by and keep going

A lot of his races have looked like that he just wins

4 – Dubai Honour

Ran 2nd last out on the AW at Kempton at 12F in group 3 as the favorite

Saw the back end of Baaeed at York in previous start running 4th

Missed by a nose at York in July and toss his Dubai race, never really in the race

So 4 starts 2 seconds, a 4th and one to toss

He’s good enough to get a placing but beating his stablemate, don’t see it

8 – My Prospero

Win last at Salisbury in group 2 race for 3yo’s by 1/2L as the big favorite, that was in July so company back in the fall

Ran 3rd at Royal Ascot in 8F race in June, ok going

He’s very lightly raced with only 6 starts

I am going to say that it’s going to be a William Haggas day to get all 3 placings in this race

Royal Randwick

Race 7 – The Everest 1200m $15millionAU/ $9.3millionUS

3 – Lost and Running

Won last start at Randwick on the heavy going nicely, average start, strong finish

First start of the season, broke and sat 7th, had no cover, moved forward on the outside but could only manage 3rd, his running time were good

If he runs back to last race of the heavy going, he will win

6 – Private Eye

Won first start of season at Flemington in group 2 races going 1200m on a good track

Has won on heavy track 2 times from 5 starts, also 1 placing

Last race, he didn’t break very well and settled towards the back of the field

Made up a ton of group late to winning going away

His won 2 times on his 2nd start of the season

Get out of the gate cleanly and settle, he will be flying at the end with some racing luck

12 – Giga Kick

Undefeated 3yo in 4 starts

Won 2 group races at 1100m

In his last 3 races, he sat back and came with a big run at the end

Maiden win, he went wire to wire

Won on the soft going but never ran 6F before

Huge step up but gets weight and could be a surprise here
