Eagle Farm Horse Racing Picks

22 to 1 Tom’s Eagle Farm Tips

Race 6

1 – Beaufort Park – Barrier 9

He moved late in his last race to get fifth in a listed race at Doomben. In the previous race, he sat in the back of the field and never got going, but the comment was that tempo suited frontrunners. His third race back was a winning effort at this level at long distance at this track. With a drop in class and good effort, he wins.

7 – Sha of Gomer – Barrier 2

In his last race, he came from midpack to get up for third in a race more suited to frontrunners. He won at Eagle Farms in his previous race at this distance, being more forwardly placed—a good record at Eagle Farms of 2 wins, one placing with four starts. For the win, he has preferred the good going, and this course looks like rain and soft going will be the case.

4 – The Drover – Barrier 4

He maintained an early position in the last race, then faded when the jockey asked for more, and he did have it. A winning effort 2 races back by 2L plus at this level, with a tempo more suited for front runners, he sat sixth and came on late while wide. The first race of the layoff was awful. He has never won at this course, and his record of 16 placings suggests he won’t be here, but he likes the good to soft going, so I gave him a chance here.

Race 7

8 – Sonofdec – Barrier 9

He won his last two races at minor tracks, a big step up today. In his first start at Newcastle in a maiden race, he had trouble but still showed something, leading to the next two victories. The last race distance was 1600m. Add distance and move to group 3. It should be interesting because he won the last two very easily.

9 – Red Defcon – Barrier 2

Toss out the last race, finished last, and never challenged. She may not have liked the soft going. She has an interesting overall record: ten starts, one win, and eight placings. She has two placings at this track, the only question for me is the distance based on the 2000m last race, was it the track or distance?

3 – Shy Guy – Barrier 3

They took the lead in the last race and battled to the finish but ran second at 2000m. The effort before was at third, going 1600m, and again came up short at the finish. His last two runs suggest he can run with this group and again do well enough for a placing.

Race 8

6 – Show Me Mercy – Barrier 4

This horse is using a barrier trial race, and after 76 days away, he won the trial at 850m in an average time. Previous races have been at lower levels of BM70, but he won three of his four, and the last race was at this distance. He showed speed last time, but races before were more midpack-type races. He steps up, running fresh, and won’t be a big price.

9 – Abounding – Barrier 8

He ran in the listed race last out at this distance, sat back, moved forward on the turn, and worked to get second. His record is nine starts, two wins, six placings. He has not been out of money in five races at this distance.

The good going will favor a good run from him.

4 – Deep Respect – Barrier 5

The first start after a 2-month break was a good effort because he had a troubled trip. He didn’t have a great start, got bumped, and still showed something at the end. He made up a couple of lengths in the stretch. He raced four times with two wins and one placing, and he prefers the good going. The clean trip and better results.

Race 9

8 – Military Expert – Barrier 6

He’s run two times since coming back from a layoff and didn’t do much except being wide, showing some speed, or, in the future, falling back. These were a $1 million race (first up) and a group 3 race. So much better company than today. He hasn’t won in 12 months and only placed once in five starts, so why pick? Class relief, show speed in the first start, should be with the leaders from the beginning today and will run a good race.

4 – Far Too Easy – Barrier 4

This horse ran a strange race last out, lost ground at the start when pinched by two other horses, sat in the back of the field, got going late and ran third. This last race was for $2 million. Second up, this horse has a record of four starts and three wins. Without trouble, he will be tough to beat—the favorite.

6 – The Big Goodbye – Barrier 5

He was sitting second in his last race but had nothing left at the end when asked to go running eight. The previous effort was better; he sat toward the back of the field; he was close, but there was no closing kick. He’s done well at the course with nine starts, two wins, and five placings. Distance is a question mark, first time try. The overall record is 34 starts, ten wins, and 15 placings.

Race 10

2 – Dune Forty Five – Barrier 2

He’s raced three times since his break, and the last one was the lesser of the three races. He settled into the race midpack and was moving ok, except other horses were moving better; he ran sixth. This was a listed race. He won his previous at 1600m, again sitting midpack. He picked it up at the end to win by a 1/2L. The first race was at Eagle Farm, and he ran second. He is back to a level he won before and has one once at this distance.

5 – Rousseau – Barrier 6

He won last time out at Doomben, running 1615m. Well, back early in the race, he picked it up with one run to get the win. He lost the race before at Eagle Farm, running seventh and last at the start. Before taking it, he had two races, running third. He won at a greater distance than this but has tried this distance six times with one placing. I am going on the current form at the right level to get a placing.

3 – Knight’s Choice – Barrier 9

He won his last start at 2000m by 1/2L over open company at Doomben. He sat midpack about 3L back and ran on strongly to win. He ran a fourth in the previous race and maybe was too far back early to get a place. He’s run in bigger races without success but does well at this level. This is a lightly raced 4yo with only twelve starts and five wins. Is he a horse who only wins and does nothing in other races? I hope not.

Rich’s Eagle Farm Ranks

Race 6: ROKU GIN BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP – 11:33 PM EST

3 – MOB BUSTER – all or nada Eagle Farm at the distance 4/2-0-0 – boxed in last out, cleaner trip today

7 – SHA OF GOMER – track and distance 2/1-1-0 and last out was better with a little faster time

12 – LIGHT OF BOOM – performance line looks like crap for last, but he ran about a second faster and extra distance today will make a difference

11 – PACIFIC PADRINO – improved in his last three outings and tends to string good outings together

Race 7: LADBROKES GRAND PRIX STAKES – 12:12 AM EST

3 – SHY GUN – Just beat the morning line favorite and I see no reason to take lower odds

2 – ENCODER – bounce back candidate – 1 for 1 at the tack and both wins came on a good surface

5 – WINDSOME STAR – raced competitively versus top contenders in the same race on soft – resume says he prefers firmer footing

1 – FELIX THE SCAT – going to be the FAV, speed and fade in his last, plenty of speed to hold off today as well, pace is too concerning to play him on top at a low price

Race 8: CHANNEL 7 GOLD EDITION PLATE – 12:52 AM EST

1 – CIFRADO – has a couple of G2, wins – all of his ITM on a good track, 3rd up

9 – ABOUNDING – killer at the distance 5/2-3-0, also making 3rd start off the bench – won the only time

7 – SPIRIT OF MAC – increased his Australian speed number in last three – I know what that means here

3 – DEFIANT SPIRIT – never off the board in 5 races, both wins on good – consistent performer

Race 9: ASCOT GREEN LOUGH NEAGH STAKES – 1:32 AM EST

1 – SCALLOPINI – Distance 20/8-3-1 – any other 24/5-5-5 – light rain now – but best on Good/Soft

4 – FAR TOO EASY – placed in G2 – likes to win right off the bench – 6 of 7 wins first or second up

5 – IRISH SONGS – very consistent performer and should be closing – being mid pack is key and should be there today

8 – MILITARY EXPERT – could be the pacesetter, maybe most back class with G1 placing, but haven’t seen that form in a bit

Race 10: EVA AIR EVERGREEN OPEN QUALITY HANDICAP – 2:12 AM EST

1 – GREAT HOUSE – picked the 1 first in the last two, might as well make it three in a two – I feel like he is the classiest horse in the field – just can’t fall way behind early as he has done

3 – KNIGHT’S CHOICE – pretty much all or nothing 12/5-1-0, probably should have him on top

5 – ROUSSEAU – like the comment from the last, “ran on strongly from last on the turn” – usually a marker for a horse coming into peak form – expecting another good run here

8 – SAVVY LAD – is another that upped his Australian speed number in the last three
