R6 THE STAR AUSTRALIAN OAKS 2400m 3F OPEN G1
1 – Orchestral – Barrier 3
Orchestral has been on a remarkable winning streak, triumphing in her last five races. Her most recent victory was by a narrow margin of just over half a length. She has proven her mettle at this distance and prefers softgoing.
3 – Zardozi – Barrier 9
She finished third behind Orchestral last time after winning a group 2 race. She’s won at 2500m but hasn’t run this distance. She has been very good after a disappointing run the first time out.
5 – Autumn Angel – Barrier 8
She moves up to group 1 after good runs at the Group 3 race last time out, where she finished second. In her last five races, she ran one that had some questions about running sixth at Caulfield at 1400m. She’s never run this distance but has won at 2000m, so I am looking for a good effort here.
R7 SCHWEPPES SYDNEY CUP 3200m 3U OPEN G1
6 – Selino – Barrier 9
No really good form lately, but maybe the distance is just too short for this horse. When running at 3200m, he has four starts and two wins. In June of last year, he won at Eagle Farm at this distance with races before of showing not much. He’s won at this track and would prefer the firmer footing, so that is the risk in playing him, but I will take a chance.
2 – Mahrajaan – Barrier 16
He is two for two at this distance and won his last race in group 2 after two very average runs. He’s another horse who does better on the firm going but has run in the money on the soft going. I would have put him on top, but the barrier position is awful, and this is a two-mile race.
3 – Ashrun – Barrier 12
He won two races back, going 2500m in a listed race as the favorite and stalking the pace. He tried Group 1 company last out and ran third. In the Melbourne Cup, he ran fourth while sitting in seventh most of the race. The closer to the pace, the better the results.
R8 QUEEN ELIZABETH STAKES 2000m 3U OPEN G1
8 – Via Sistina – Barrier 5
In her Australia debut, she won easily at 2000m in a group 1. She came from Europe with a good record, and they paid over five million Australian dollars for her. After one race, this looks like a good purchase. Her record at this distance is very good: eight starts, four wins, and three placings. It’s my favorite, for sure.
4 – Lindermann – Barrier 9
Toss out his last race; he had no chance from barrier seventh last time out. He won the race in a group 3 at 2000m by over four lengths. He will perform better today.
7 – Pride of Jenni – Barrier 3
She is the speed of the race and has won at the top-level going wire to wire. Last time, she gave it up at the end, barely by half a length. If she gets her way on the front end, she may need more time to get by.
R9 GRAINSHAKER VODKA QUEEN OF THE TURF 1600m 3UFM OPEN G1
14 – Tropical Squall – Barrier 3
She ran on the front end for most of the race last time out, and this was breaking from barrier 17. She couldn’t hold on and ran a good fourth overall. Now, with a better draw, she will be on the lead, and it will be try and catch me. I don’t think she will be caught.
3 – Campionessa – Barrier 13
I would have put this horse on top, but for the barrier position and what’s running inside of her. She won a group 2 two starts back and then ran third in a group 2 last time out, losing by two lengths. She likes this distance with a record of eight starts, four wins and one placing. She should sit close to the leaders, but the jockey is going to have to ride her a bit early to get into position.
5 – Semana – Barrier 4
She ran second last time out, breaking from barrier eleven, and was farther back than normal, sitting eighth. The previous two starts were winning efforts at 1400m and 1200m. She tried and placed in her only run at this distance. In good form and the distance should be a problem.
R10 CINCOTTA CHEMIST SAPPHIRE STAKES 1200m 3UFM OPEN G2
7 – Miss Hellfire – Barrier 7
First up after layoff, she ran sixth in a group 2, sitting eighth most of the race. She won or placed at this distance six times from ten starts. Her second-up record is strong, with four starts, one win, and three placings. She won at Randwick before and at this distance but at a lower level. I am going put her on top.
11 – Miss Faberge – Barrier 11
She ran fourth last time out sitting very close to the lead at 1400m. In her previous race, she ran fourth and was farther back to move late. The last two races were at the group level and she has winning efforts at lower levels. She never placed in a group race but this appears to be an wide open race and with the drop in distance, she will show up at the end.
4 – Tashi – Barrier 10
I can’t leave her off my ticket even though this is her first try verse group 2 company. She ran a strong second last out at Rosehill at 1200m after settling seventh. Her record at this distance is, ten starts, three wins and six placings. Off the last effort, she will be in the money again.

Rich’s Ranks and Comments
Race 5: Arrowfield – 12:05 am edt
1 – Ozzmosis – unbeaten in two on soft and 1 for 1 at the track on soft
9 – Hedged – much faster, by about 2 seconds in last, maybe even better in 3rd up?
5 – Red Resistance – should be on the front and ran a close 2nd in a soft Randwick trip
11 – Joliestar – a win and a second in a pair of first up outings
Race 6: The Star Australian Oaks – 12:40 am edt
3 – Zardozi – let’s take a crack at beating the 3/5 fav with one that is 6/4-0-0 on soft – all her wins
1 – Orchestral – won 6/9 races and 5 in a row, did regress a little in last, so maybe peaked?
5 – Autumn Angel – rallies hard at the end, Tom horse, win – maybe, ITM – yes
2 – Quintessa – just missed at 1 ¼ miles last out, looks the longer the better, extra ¼ mile here
Race 7: Sydney Cup – 1:15 am edt
1 – Military Mission – didn’t fire in lone 2m race, but does seem to prefer softer footing – let’s see
2 – Mahrajaan – doesn’t win except at 2 miles – where he is 2 for 2
9 – Amade – was 3 seconds faster in his last race at 2 miles than the previous
2 – Loft – another that is 2 for two at the distance
Race 8: Queen Elizabeth Stakes – 1:55 am edt
1 – Mr Brightside – 10 in a row on a good track – the Killers horse might prefer a little soft 9/5-1-0
8 – Via Sistina – resume says he should be better in the 2nd up
11 – Ceolwulf – a little young at 3 facing older, but can handle it with a pair of seconds in his last G2s
7 – Pride Of Jenni – she could be the FAV vs boys, going to be upfront – saw too many get run down on soft last week, even on soft fractions
Race 9: Queen Of The Turf – 2:35 am edt
2 – Zougotcha – winner of two in a row and 4/5 on soft
3 – Campionessa – will be closing and ran about 1 ½ seconds faster last out – approx. 7 lengths
5 – Semana – has not gone 1 mile yet, but I think he’ll like the extra distance 1/1 at the track
1 – Atishu – solid soft and 2nd up record, but 1 mile might be a tad too short
Race 10: Sapphire Stakes – 3:10 m edt
2 – C’est Magique – tossing last as he was way back early on – better start = better finish
3 – Wee Nessy – win and place in 3rd up and 2/0-1-1 at the track and distance
1 – Red Card – much sharper in 2024 – won all three and has a work between starts
Grand National
10 – MAHLER MISSION – trainer says he is targeting this race to be in prime form
25 – LIMERICK LACE – having an excellent campaign in 2024
16 – AIN’T THAT A SHAME – a little Cheap Trick action – 1 for 1 in 2024 – should be fresh and has proven he can handle the Grand National
7 – CORACH RAMBLER – defending champ – can’t imagine it’s easy to go back to back
