22 to 1 Tom’s Tips

Race 3

4 – Gallant Star – Post 3

Coming in off layoff with two barrier trials with a win at 900m and 2nd at 1000m

He likes distance running three times, with 2 wins, 1 second in his three-race career.

He has shown speed in past races and should get an ideal trip breaking from the three post.

He hasn’t raced in 6 months and never raced on a good track, but I think he is the one to beat right now. I am getting 6-1 odds.

2 – Raoul – Post 15

Won at the class 2 level last time out, making a bunch of equipment changes to the horse.

Blinkers off again, blinkers offside, first-time glue on shoes, nose roll, tongue tie, earmuff (pre-race)

Sat in the back of the field and won by just over 1/2L

At this distance, he won once from 4 starts but placed in the other three races.

His overall record of 11 starts, 2 wins 6 placings make be put him in the money running, but the post position sucks

11 – Mogo Magic – Post 11

Undefeated in two starts at 1065m and 1000m with by 3.5L and 7L

He won both of his barrier trials at 800m and 790m

Win again, very possible, but did get a wide post position and has shown speed in his first two starts so that the early position will be the key for a positive result.

Favorite right now to repeat.

Race 4

1 – Helene Leadingstar – Post 2

Showed signs of life last out, running 3rd of 6 at 1700m behind by 2.5L.

Shipped for Hong Kong and won a barrier trial in December.

The first start was average, behind in the entire race, and nothing more.

He drops to his lowest level in a long time and has won at this distance in the past with a record of 9 starts 2 wins 2 placings.

Former group 1 and group 3 level winner improves to win here.

2 – Logan Street Lion – Post 1

His recent form is very good winning last time out at the BM78 level going 1800m, showed pace early, and finished get just get up in time.

His last 12 months have been productive, 7 starts, 3 wins 2 placings.

Moves up in class and distance; he’s never run this distance.

Since he is unproven at 2000m, I must put him with an in-the-money finish.

7 – Mahagoni – Post 7

Two good runs running second in both races.

These were at the BM88 and BM78 levels.

He sits mid-pack and moves up through the straight, but I want to see him running more forward to have a chance.

Some concern about this level but a stronger effort last out shows some ability.

Never run this distance, but with 21 starts 4 wins 8 placings, I like his chances.

Race 6

4 – Titanium Power – Post 2

Won last time at BM88, going 1200m, set the pace, and was never looking back.

Tougher group today, but with a record of 7 starts, 2 wins 4 placings at this distance.

He’s all speed, and there is only one other horse Vreneli who may join him at the front. Otherwise, there is very little speed from any other horse in this race.

With a clear lead and honest fractions, he will win again.

8 – Ruby Tuesday – Post 8

Drops from group 3 races last out, running a good 4th sitting close to the pace and giving way at the end.

Won at the BM78 level race before at 1350m by a head.

Before the layoff, he ran some very dull efforts.

Loves this distance, 3 starts 3 wins, and has a win at this track.

Ok, odds in a race with many contenders.

1 – Looks Like Elvis – Post 4

Ran a strong 2nd last out in the listed race at 1400m moving up from 7th to get 2nd.

His last 3 races have been good, but no winning efforts.

He’s the veteran of the field at 8yo with 60 starts 10 wins 23 placings.

Based on the recent form, I can leave him off my ticket.

Race 7

3 – Our Modena – Post 10

She tried and failed at Group 3 last time out, I am tossing that race.

Won at the BM78 level the race before at 1400m at this track.

Since layoff, she’s run one bad race, last out.

Distance isn’t an issue with a record of 10 starts 2 wins 4 placings.

Mid-pack type running should finish strong at this level.

Maybe 10-1 odds?

11 – Sweet Mercy – Post 12

She’s been running at lower levels with a positive result with 1 win and 2 seconds in her last 3 races.

She moves up in class and has a wide post position but this 3yo has a good overall record of 10 starts 2 wins 4 placings.

Good at the distance with 3 starts, 1 win, 1 placing.

She has better results running midpack, and her races closer to the pace have resulted in 4th place finishes.

A bit of a price at 9-1, but good enough for an in-the-money run for me.

6 – Ella Te Ama – Post 2

Another horse I tossed the last race, Group 3 races, and ran 7th of 14.

Won against open company in a provincial series finale the race before but over 3.5L coming from the back of the field.

This 4yo has been moving up in class in her races from Class 1 to Open company with a record of 9 starts 3 wins 2 placings.

Is this the right spot for her vs this field, I think she will make a good account of herself.

Race 8

1 – Kanazawa – Post 2

He won her last race at Randwick at 1400m in a BM78 race with an even run early and was able to get by and win by 1/2L.

He is using a barrier trial run as prep for this race, and he ran 2nd at 1030m.

he hasn’t been out of money at this distance 4 starts 2 wins 2 placings.

he’s at the right level, has good runs before, and looks like the winner to me.

14 – Bluff “N” Bluster – Post 4

The last 2 runs have not been winning ones but have shown some interest in running coming from the back of the field and were bumped at the start.

Running 4th in the BM72 race at 1400m back by 2.5L, moved too late?

Before ran 3rd in the BM78 race losing by 1/2L.

The races are after 2 average starts at the beginning of the season.

He prefers the soft going and all his wins are on soft or heavy.

He’s won at this distance too.

He is better at running in the money with 38 starts 4 wins and 12 placings and at this distance, 15 starts 2 wins 5 placings. Some form suggests good effort here.

7 – Bend The Knee – Post 7

After some average efforts, he ran 3rd last out running forwardly placed.

He didn’t miss by much, 3/4L back running 1500m

Drops in distance and same level again and may have shown enough for a strong effort in this race.

My only question is the soft going.

Race 9

2 – She’s The Gift – Post 4

In the past five races, she only managed a 3rd in a 1600m race in a Group 3 race as Gosford.

This is a drop-in class for her from Group and Listed races.

Toss last, finished last of 11 in listed race at Rosehill.

She showed speed running at the front and then gave way.

Ok at the distance 8 runs 2 wins 2 placings

Class relief, good run up front and close to win this race.

7 – Star Sparks – Post 2

After a break, she ran 4th at the BM78, ok effort.

The trainer took off the blinkers for her first start of the season, and in July and August, she won 2 races in a row at the BM68 and BM72 levels with blinkers.

The blinkers are back on for this race.

Class rise but she has been improving all along and this may be a chance to catch her at a nice price.

At this distance, she is 3 for 3.

She’s won on good and soft going.

1 – Bullfinch – Post 5

Two good efforts at Randwick leading up to this race.

2nd in the last race and 3rd in the race before.

He was moved up to BM100 level last out.

Back to this level, in form and should be able to find a the money finish here.

Race 10

3 – Rocket Tiger – Post 11

He’s been away for the races since March.

Prepped for this race in the barrier trial winning at 1000m in a good time.

In that March race, which was the only race of 2022, he ran 6th showing some speed.

Now with his return, more mature and on paper looks like he is ready to roll.

1 – Classy Jaybee – Post 14

After some of runs, the last race was disappointing with a 12th finish after showing so early speed. May distance be too short?

The race before was much better at this distance, running 2nd by 3/4L.

Good record at this distance 4 starts 1 win 3 placings

If you toss the last, he should do well vs this bunch.

16 – Narito – Post 7

Draws into the race after a 2nd at the BM72 level at this distance.

That was the first start of the season after a useful barrier trial.

Ran close to the pace and had something left to move up.

Lightly raced 4yo with 5 starts 2 wins 1 placing.

Top trainer and rider going on this horse, and I always fear the ones that draw in because this is the spot the trainer wants to run the horse.
