Rosehill Racecourse Picks and Analysis

22 to 1 Tom’s Tips

Race 5 – Ranvet Stakes Group 1 2000m

6 – Via Sistina – Barrier 8

This is her first start in Australia, but she has run against and beaten some of the best in Europe. She’s done well first up with a record of five starts, two wins, one second and one third. She also did ok on the soft going with seven runs, three wins, and one second. Her last race was a second verse, King of Steel, on British Champion Day at Ascot. If ready, she’s dangerous.

2 – Military Mission – Barrier 6

It was not great, but it was alright last time at Randwick. It was over the good-going running mid-pack, and they moved to get third. This was his first start after a layoff, and his second-up record is five starts, three wins, one second, and one third. The distance is good for him; he should run a good race.

7 – Place Du Carrousel – Barrier 5

This is the other horse starting for the first time in Australia. Her last race was in the Arc verse Ace Impact, and she showed little against a top field. She won her previous two starts on the soft going at Deauville and Longchamp. She has also beat the Breeder’s Cup Fillies & Mares winner Nashwa. She is good, but is she ready?

Race 6 – Rosehill Guineas Group 1 2000m

2 – Riff Rocket – Barrier 8

He sat in nineth last time out, as normal, and came on late to run third in a group 1. He won his previous start in a group 3 at Flemington at 1400m. His won at longer distances but not at this level but he’s in good form and will be tough to beat.

7 – Immediacy – Barrier 12

Undefeated in his three starts, this will be the most challenging race for him far, but looking at the last race at 1800m, he sat back and moved very strongly to win again. He’s won on the soft going so let’s see what he can do it again.

11 – Cosmic Lad – Barrier 10

He had some okay races before his last start at a lesser track, and then there was nothing last time out at Randwick at big odds, and he sat at the back of the field. So why add a choice in this race? He had a good run at 1900m on the soft going, suggesting that he wants more distance to show his best.

Race 7 – George Ryder Stakes Group 1 1500m

15 – Lady Laguna – Barrier 12

She ran well in her last five races, only being beaten by Zougotcha, who won last Saturday at Rosehill. She’s run closer to the pace and farther back and won. She never won at this distance or ever run this length of a race. Her record is very good with 24 starts and a 29% winning percentage and 75% in the money percentage. She’s won from the outside barrier before and I think they placed her in this race to see what she got.

5 – Golden Mile – Barrier 5

He is using a barrier trial as prep for this race and ran fourth. He wasn’t asking for much in the trial. He’s only won one first-up but ran second two times. He’s won on the soft going but not at this distance. But he won going 1600m. He has won and placed at this track five times. If ready, he will make a good account of himself verse this group.

9 – Loch Eagle – Barrier 9

He ran an average race last out, sitting fourth and backing up to run sixth; this was going over the good going. He’s won two races from four starts on the soft going and won twice from five starts the second time up. He has won at this distance in the past. Good odds.

Race 8 – Golden Slipper Group 1 1200m

1 – Storm Boy – Barrier 2

Starting position is essential in a 2-year-old race like this, and barrier 2, with his speed, will be a big benefit for him. Getting Ryan Moore doesn’t hurt either. He’s four for four and has won at this distance three times. He has won on the softgoing. Go for the lead and play and come and catch me. There are horses to push him on the lead, but I go back to an intelligent jockey with plenty of horses left to finish.

3 – Shangri La Express – Barrier 3

He can be on the pace or sit off the pace, and it’s worked so far, as he has run in the money in all four of his races, with two wins. He placed on the soft going behind the horse I am going to select for third. He will have a good run again.

7 – Switzerland – Barrier 7

He is also undefeated, with three wins, all at Randwick. They have asked him to go a longer distance, so he is winning by larger margins. He has a barrier trial at this track. He will sit off the pace and run strongly again, but my choice will win again.

Race 9 – The Galaxy Group 1 1100m

11 – Sunshine In Paris – Barrier 2

She had two barrier trials to prepare for this race. Although she has never run this distance, she has won at 1200m to 1400 m in group 1 company. They recently spaced out her races, and she won first-up. She has never run out of money in any of her races, and she has run six times and won four times.

4 – Uncommon James – Barrier 1

I am very interested in this horse because he’s only been out of money in one race, the final race of his 4-year-old career. He’s run in two group 1s and one group 2 but is behind by at least 2 lengths. He’s used a barrier trial as prep and won the race. His winning percentage is 46%. Another run in the money is the way I see his run.

12 – Zapateo – Barrier 9

In her last race, she didn’t run the way she had in the past. She was on the lead but got caught at the end. The race before, she ran off the leaders. Her last two races are her best, coming after a layoff. These were in group 2, so she steps up in class here, but her form is good, and all I want her to do is run in the money.
