The Curragh Horse Racing Picks and Commentary

Saturday, July 16, 2022

22 to 1 Tom’s International Tips

Barberstown Castle Sapphire Stakes (Group 2) (3yo+) 5f

2 – Mooneista

18 starts 3 wins 6 seconds 4 thirds

All wins at 5F

Last out, a good 4th at Royal Ascot behind Nature Strip

Raced in the back of the field before moving forward and we should see him do this again

Won a group 2 last year and appears well placed here

7 – Brostaigh

9 starts 3 wins 2 seconds 1 third

Winner last out at Chantilly in group 2 on soft going 5F

Won race before at Naas in listed race at 5F

It took her 6 races to break maiden, which was on the AW at Dundalk

3 races this year all have been good

The group win was big

4 – Castle Star

7 starts 2 wins 4 seconds

Has raced since September running 2nd to Perfect Power in group 1 at Newmarket

All his other races have been at the Curragh and worse finish was 4th

He’s won at 5F & 6F in listed and group 3 company (broke maiden in the listed race)

Don’t be surprised if the horse break slowly from the gate but gets going with 2F left

In form? Interesting place to start the season

Juddmonte Irish Oaks (Group 1) (Fillies) (3yo) 1m4f

2 – Emily Dickinson – Draw 2

Ran 2nd in group 3 last out at 14F sitting midpack and just missed by a head

Took 3 starts at maiden level to win

The Lingfield prep for the Epsom Oaks was a disappointing effort so running at Leopardstown made more sense in the last race

If she builds off the last race, she will be coming at the end

6 – Magical Lagoon – Draw 8

Won last group 2 race at Ascot making most of the running, she was headed with 2F left but came on strong to win

2nd in start before in listed races at Navan losing to Concert Hall who ran at BEL last Saturday

Failed badly in group 1 race at Newmarket for the final start last year

Won a group 3 race at the Curragh

Will be the leader in this race and try and take them wire-to-wire

Saratoga Horse Racing Picks and Analysis

Saturday, July 16 – GI Diana

2 – Creative Flare

Winner last out in Dubai – group 2 with a good field

Layoff but she wins off layoffs and has done this twice

A winner at distance and one third

This is a race with 3 speed/pace horses and 3 stalkers, she just needs to be moving well at the end

1 – Technical Analysis

A wire-to-wire winner last out and has Jose Oritz on the rail.

The key is to establish the lead in front of the other 2 and setup reasonable fractions, easier said than do.

She’s won 3 of her last 5 races and placed in the other 2

All in top company

3 – Bleecker Street

Done nothing wrong but win all her races

Last out was her first grade 1 win at 1 ¼

Won at this distance at Tampa and Churchill

Should get the pace to run at

Big favorite and one to beat

Curragh Horse Racing Tips and Analysis

Sunday, June 17, 2022

Romanised Minstrel Stakes (Group 2) (3yo+) 7f

5 – Pearls Galore – Draw 6

14 starts 6 wins 3 seconds 1 third

Won last 2 races at 1 mile in Ireland at the Curragh and Leopardstown

These races were group 2 vs fillies and open listed race

She ran 6th behind Space Blues in the Breeder Cup Turf mile

At ParisLongchamp, she ran 2nd to Space Blues in 7F group 1 race

2 good races and the one to beat

6 – Dr Zempf – Draw 2

7 starts 3 wins 1 second

2 starts at 7F and won both at Leopardstown

Won last at 7F and won first start at 7F

The Curragh didn’t go too well, with a 5th at 1 mile but that’s not his distance and I would toss that race

He will race in the front or with the leaders and will be tough here

1 – Order of Australia – Draw 1

16 starts 4 wins 1 second 3 thirds

Ran 3rd at Royal Ascot in group 1 to Baaeed (the best miler and horse on the planet right now)

He may have been beaten 5 3/4L but that was a good effort for 1st start

Awful race at Keeneland in October, running last of 12 – toss

Then found that backend of Baaeed at ParisLongchamp in group 1 in September by 1 1/4L but it really wasn’t that close

Won his only start at 7F he won last year group 2 at the Curragh

Watch for a change of headgear on this horse, if there is something changed that not a good sign by Aiden O’Brien because it’s generally a sign of last chance to get the horse to do something better

Kilboy Estate Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies & Mares) (3yo+) 1m1f

3 – Purplepay – Draw 1

11 starts 4 wins 2 second 2 thirds

She’s run interestingly this season with 2 very average runs and 1 win in group 2 race at Chantilly at 1 mile

Last out, she saw the backend of La Petite Coco in her seasonal debut in group 1 in June at longer distance

Her win in France was a good strong race and she did well over first to the lead, passed, behind by 5plus L and then came back and was ridden out

In the Irish Guineas, she looks like she needed the race and lost to a very talented 3-year-old – Homeless Songs

Race towards the front and should be right there at the end

She drops from group 1 last out and looks to bounce back here

4 – Galleria Borghese – Draw 8

6 starts 3 wins 2 seconds

Last out, made all the running and won this listed race at Naas by 1/2L

Late developing horse who first starts were in April/May and not very good races in maidens

Then came back after dull effort 11 days later and won at 1 mile at Naas in maiden

Since then, she won 1 and placed 2nd twice in handicap races

You won’t get 12-1 this time on her but this is a step up but with all this recent good form, she must be considered especially if no one challenges her on the front end

6 – One for Bobby – Draw 6

3 starts 2 wins

Toss last, nothing went right with her, never on terms and very unimpressive race

She won her first 2 starts at Gowan Park at this distance

If she runs back to her previous form, she right in this race

Step up also for her but is lightly raced and let’s see what she can do here at a distance that should suit
