Horse Racing Picks and Analysis
With Queen Elizabeth III’s passing, England has cancelled Saturday’s horse races in her honor. May she RIP. As a result, it’s an all-Sunday card at Doncaster and the Curragh.
Doncaster Picks – Free Doncaster Past Performance
Race 6: Cazoo Park Stakes
Race 7: Cazoo St Leger Stakes
The Curragh – Free Curragh Past Performances
Race 3 – Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Flying Five Stakes
Race 4 – Moyglare Stud Stakes
Race 5 – Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes
22 to 1 Tom’s Tips
2:20 – Race 3
Coral Champagne Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (2yo) 7f
Silver Knott
3 races 2 wins
Last start in group 3 at Sandon going 7F, he was held in the back of the field to make run overtaking the group to win with plenty left
Won a novice at Kempton on the AW as same distance with going the standard/slow
Favorite and I don’t think the soft going will be an issue
Indestructible
Ran 2nd in group 3 last out losing out to the second choice here
Made the running and caught at the end, basically didn’t have enough left
Won the start before at 6F, which was a group 2 at Newmarket
He appears to be the only real speed here and let’s see if he can hang on again
3:20 – Race 6
Cazoo Park Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 7f
3 – Al Suhail
Ran a dull 5th last out, why dull?
First race back from Dubai, average effort but not out of the norm for many horses
He has raced 7F 8 times and won 3 placed 1 third 2
Grade 2 winner with William Buick to ride again
Both races have not been good but placing him here at his distance looks positive for me to get back on track
2 – Kinross
Won last time out in group 2 at York going 7F
Good record on good or soft going
But doesn’t repeat wins but always faces top company
I think he’s good for third, but I can’t place him higher
8 – New Energy
Last 2 races were group 1’s at Royal Ascot & Deauville, neither were very good efforts
Much better earlier in the season with 1 second and 2 thirds in group 1 to listed company
Hasn’t raced since July but after that 2nd at the Curragh, they were looking that group 1 win
He’s placed on going of yielding to soft
Win? Doubtful but with some time off, I can see a better effort
3:55 – Race 7
Cazoo St Leger Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) Cl1 (3yo) 1m6½f
5 – Hoo Ya Mal
Won last in short field very comfortably by 2 1/2L
Very consist in last 6 races until last, running 2nd or 3rd with breakthru in last
Jockey switch with Buick going to the favorite and David Probert get back up and ran 2nd with him in the Epsom Derby
Distance suits him
8 – Haskay
Won last 2 races by 7L and a neck but he’s only run in 2 races
Both races at 12F
She won a listed race at York
Gets weight from the field and gains Frankie Dettori as replacement for Ryan Moore
A big unknown here but she’s definitely a late developing horse
Distance and ground should suit
1 – Eldar Eldarov
Shipped to ParisLongchamp and ran a disappointing 4th by 5 1/4L last out as the favorite in group 1
Won first 3 starts starting in Oct 2021, many gaps in racing
A group 2 winner at Royal Ascot at 14F group 2 by a nose
If he runs his race, he is suited for conditions and distance but many unknowns too
The Curragh – Sunday
2:25 – Race 3
Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Flying Five Stakes (Group 1) (3yo+) 5f
12 – Highfield Princess
Started her season in February with 4 runs in the AW, not great at the start then won her final start at Newcastle
Moving back to the turf, wins at York in group 2
Next start was at Royal Ascot and not her best, running 6th that was in a field of 24
A break of 50 days, run Deauville at 61/2F was a win in group 1
The a win at York at 5F in group 1 in the Nunthorpe, surprising she went off at 5-1
She’s in form and should repeat
1 – A Case Of You
After a good run in Dubai with a 2nd and 1st in big races shipped back to and ran 3rd at the Curragh as the favorite
Then an awful race at Royal Ascot, needed the layoff
This horse has won or finished in the money every time after layoff
13 – Mooneista
Ran second to Ladies Church last out by a head in challenging race with good field in group 2
4th at Royal Ascot to Nature Strip
This horse likes to run in the money more than winning
I can’t leave him out
3:00 – Race 4
Moyglare Stud Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies) (2yo) 7f
11 – Tahiyra
1 start 1 win by 5 1/2L at Galway going 7F, the comment in the notes was “impressive”
The was over good to yielding
Now steps up to group 1 company after a very good effort
Dermot Weld trained and he knows how to handle 2yo and this may a very good horse
12 – Thornbrook
She ran 3rd to this race favorite by 1L, got caught but kept on going at 12-1
Won maiden at Leopardstown by 1 1/4L in good time
The mare has produced 4 group and stakes winners
This maybe the shortest distance for this horse because his siblings won at longer distances and there are 2 jumpers
Let’s see if this suits and going should not be an issue
6 – Meditate
4 runs 4 wins on going from yielding to good to firm
The last race was hers shortest margin
Races from 5F to 7F
Aiden O’Brien trained and Ryan Moore on board
3:35 – Race 5
Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes (Group 1) (Colts & Fillies) (2yo) 7f
4 – Marbaan
Won last 3 races in novice and group 2 company, first start he needed at Newbury
He’s been running on good to firm running so yielding will be different
But, the dam raced and won on soft going
Good win last out at 14-1 being in the back of the field and made one big move to win over the Royal Ascot winner by 1/2L
Step up again but hasn’t done anything wrong and with pace up front he should be right there
2 – Al Riffa
Only a maiden winner in 2 races, placed in the other
Both races at the Curragh at 7F
1st maiden race, he was defeated by Hans Andersen by 1 1/4L
No telling if he will like the going by the sire won on the very soft and was top sprinter
1 – Aesop’s Fables
2 for 2 with maiden and group 2 races beating Hans Andersen by 2 1/4L at 3-1
Won his maiden sitting back and move at 1F marker
Both races has some pace so like a few others in the field, may need a good pace to win
Ryan Moore and Aiden O’Brien do very well with developing 2yo
Hans Andersen is the other O’Brien horse in this race, Ryan Moore rode in his first 2 starts
4:10 – Race 6
Comer Group International Irish St Leger Group 1 (3yo+) 1m6f
5 – Kyprios
Has beaten the best in Europe all season, 4 starts 4 wins
It started in a listed race, then group 3 and 2 group 1’s
He’s not won on soft going (in 2 tries) but did win on heavy going
But this is a horse that’s in terrific form and wants long distance races
Favorite and very hard to pass on
10 – Rosscarbery
Good 2nd at Deauville last out in group 1 at 10F
Sat behind the leaders but no match for the winner
DQed in race at the Curragh for carrying the wrong weight but ran 3rd in that race
Faces the males for the first time
2 – Hamish
Winner at Chester in last race but that was in May
Only 3 races in 2021 with 1 win, a 4th to Trueshan and a not great race on the AW at Kempton as the favorite, something was wrong
This is a 6 yo with 9 starts 4 wins 2 seconds 1 third
So 7 out 9 races in the money and the other races were 7th and 4th last year
Distance and going should be fine for another run in the money
