22 to 1 Tom’s Glorious Goodwood selections and Comments
Race 1 – 1:50
Coral Glorious Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (4yo+) 1m4f
1 – Aimeric – Draw 5
He steps up in class after missing by a neck in a listed race at Newmarket. A winner on the all-weather this season, he’s run second in his other two races. In this small field, I will put him on top.
3 – Lion’s Pride – Draw 3
He has run twice this season and finished third twice. He gets money placings but needs help getting out of the starting gate cleanly. He steps up in class and will run in the money again.
2 – Al Aasy – Draw 4
He won a Group 3 race last season at Haydock and is coming off his first start, running second in a listed race at Newbury. He is the one to beat.
Race 2 – 2:25
Coral Summer Handicap Cl2 (3yo+) 1m6f
4 – True Legend – Draw 2
He lost by one length last time out at Royal Ascot running third and stayed on well. Toss the Newcastle race, they took the blindfold off late at the start and really was messed up but ran on for fifth. No wins this season but this looks like the right spot.
14 – Dancing In Paris – Draw 7
Ran fourth last time out as one of the favorites after issues at the start. He’s been running well since May with two wins and a second before the last race. This is his second try at a class two race and he will have a nice run here.
12 – Forza Orta – Draw 5
He raced wide for a bit of the race on the all-weather and ran sixth with a less-than-desirable trip. He hasn’t won since August of last year, but he’s running at this level, and none of the races have been complete failures; he didn’t find more at the end. He will today.
Race 3 – 3:00
Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m6f
1 – Caius Chorister – Draw 4
She never really traveled well in her last race, a group one at Royal Ascot, but it would have taken a miracle to have any chance of beating Kyprios. She has had good success in group three races and against fillies and mares, with a second, second, and win (before layoff). If she gets something out of the last race, she will be tough to beat here.
2 – Dancing Tango – Draw 2
It was asking a lot from her last out against a good field, but she did well enough to run fifth but pretty far back. She had two better runs in the races before missing by half a length and a head. She’s won on good going, and now adding distance may be what she’s been looking to run all along.
10 – Term Of Endearment – Draw 10
She won her last start, beating a few of these horses at York by three-quarters of a length. That was her first season start in a group 3 race, and she was bet going off at 4-1. Add distance and a race under her belt, and she will be tough here, concerned about the draw on the outside.
Race 4 – 3:35
Coral Stewards’ Cup (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (3yo+) 6f
9 – Mostabshir – Draw 24
Better at Royal Ascot, two starts back, than in the last race. In his last race, he had too many issues to overcome. A better run in the Ascot race and will have to show more today. I like the move to six furlongs and Gosden’s know-how of placing horses in the right race. They must have seen something to run at six furlongs for the first time.
6 – Seven Questions – Draw 5
He was way overmatched in his last race at Royal Ascot. He beat four horses, but it was a group one against a field of sprinters. He is returning to six furlongs, where he has had success before, and he is a group three winner.
21 – The X O – Draw 17
My big longshot. He returns to six furlongs and shows some run at Epsom at seven furlongs and an average run at Royal Ascot. He’s a better horse on the all-weather, but this could be a good spot for a placing. He’s not your winner.
23 – Dream Composer – Draw 15
This horse needs rain to have any chance. Since the forecast is for showers, I will add him to my choices. He ran some nice races this season, winning the Dash. He returns to six furlongs and has won at this distance. It will help him, but he needs some rain, too.
Race 5 – 4:10
Whispering Angel Handicap Cl2 (3yo 0-105) 7f
6 – Mission To Moon – Draw 4
He really ran well at Royal Ascot, finishing fourth and leading his group until late in the race at 25-1. He may be more suited to seven furlongs. He’s run well on all goings but won on softer going. The form looks positive; let’s see what we can do here.
8 – Qirat – Draw 9
He won at first asking at Goodwood in May at this distance. Then, he ran at Royal Ascot and was the joint favorite, finishing sixth. He was the last run, up with the leaders and again a joint favorite, finishing fifth. He’s run from the rear and closer to the pace, but returning to seven furlongs is the key to running a good race.
1 – Indian Run – Draw 14
He ran against a group of three horses last time out. He was keen, raced in the middle of the track, lacked room at one point, and ran on for eleventh. He won a group three race as a 2-year-old, but his first runs this season could have been better. Class relief may make a difference.
Race 6 – 4:45
British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (IRE Incentive Race) Cl2 (2yo) 7f
1 – Angelo Buonarrati
8 – Methgal
4 – Caspian King
Race 7 – 5:20
Coral We’re Here For It Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-95) 1m1f
10 – Alpha Crucis
16 – Celtic Warrior
4 – Rowayeh
Rich’s Glorious Goodwood Ranks

1 – AIMERIC – has fired off the sidelines and probably the most consistent in the race
2 – AL AASY – has the most upside in the field – throws in an occasional stink bomb
3 – LION’S PRIDE – never off the board in seven starts and expecting a top effort today
Race 2: Coral Summer Handicap – Post Time 9:25 am ET
10 – ALIGN THE STARS – firing on all cylinders right now and appears to be getting stronger
9 – GREAT BEDWYN – believe he will be better in second off the sidelines and won his last Goodwood run “strongly” – horse for the course
2 – FAIRBANKS – could be the favorite – rebound race in his last and tends to pair up strong efforts
4 – TRUE LEGEND – finally healthy? Making the 3rd start in a row for the first time in almost a year
Race 3: Lillie Langtry Stakes – Post Time 10:00 am ET
7 – RIVER OF STARS – knows how to finish ITM 12/4-4-2 – solid off the bench and might prefer solid footing
4 – FREE WIND – best races, by far, on good to firm surfaces
11 – GRATEFUL – one of those horses that is coming into form
1 – CAIUS CHORISTER – probably been running too long as funny as that sounds at 1 ¾ miles, but she’s been going at least 2 miles in the last three
Race 4: Coral Stewards’ Cup – Post Time 10:35 ET
20 – BILLY JOH – going to try with this guy again – maybe cutting back in distance helps
11 – LETHAL LEVI – 3rd up and cutting back in distance us useful here too
2 – DARK TROOPER – solid performer and shown he can win in large fields
23 – DREAM COMPOSER – another making the 3rd up start, and was faster last out
Race 5: Whispering Angel Handicap – Post Time 11:10 am ET
4 – JEHANGEER – runs his best with jockey Tom Eaves – first time in career making 3 straight starts
2 – BALLYMOUNT BOY – most upside potential in the race – at his best, wins, maybe easily
10 – ARTIC THUNDER – 2 races one turf – the one at 7f
5 – WITNESS STAND – two of his best races at 7f – a horse for the distance?
