Sha Tin Horse Racing Tips

22 to 1 Tom’s Tips

Race 6

2 – Voyage Samurai – Draw 6

He will only start at this level and the same distance, sharing the lead most of the race. He is favorite, but you’re not getting 8-1 this time.

13 – Smart Folks – Draw 2

The last two races were terrible finishing last and second to last. But showed well in the all-weather run going second. His form cycle seems to be two poor races followed by a good race so at a price and favorable draw, why not. Showed speed last out before retreating at the 300m left to run. The 7yo will show up here.

7 – Patch of Theta – Draw 4

He hasn’t learned how to win yet but has finished in the money in all of his starts (four times). Change of jockey to top hands and will be flying at the end of the race.

Race 7

1 – Lucky Sweynesse – Draw 8

He had all kinds of problems last race, checked, blocked, and came back lame, running sixth. This is a really good sprinter so why run him at 1400m? Well, he’s tried this distance three times and won all his races. A switch of jockey and a good pace in the race will help his chances.

4 – Beauty Joy – Draw 10

He ran on late in his last race at 2000m (too far) to get sixth by 41/4L, but running against Romantic Warrior is tough for any horse right now. Back to a distance, I think, is more suited for this horse with a record of nine starts, two wins, two seconds, and one third, maybe just what this horse needs with his late run to get a placing.

6 – Healthy Happy – Draw 7

Toss last race, he bled and ran awful and won’t most horses with issues. Prior to that race, he had some good runs moving up late. With the speed from California Spangle in this race, he will be closing fast at the end.

Race 8

4 – Stellar Express – Draw 10

On his first start, he ran second, losing by ½ of a length at this distance, showing lots of promise. He changed jockeys to the top on the leaderboard; he got the job done today.

8 – James Tak – Draw 11

He’s raced four times and ran fourth in his first start. Now, with two wins, one at 1000m and one at 1200m, he has the ability down the straight to get a placing here.

10 – Youthful Spirits – Draw 9

He won his maiden in Australia last time by 3-plus lengths in June. First start in Hong Kong, I normally don’t play to win, but I think this one’s got a chance for a strong effort after surgery in October. They gave him time before the first start, so let’s see what he’s got.

Race 9

2 – Five G Patch – Draw 4

He was no match for Romantic Warrior in his last start at 2000m in the Group 1 race. He drops back in distance but has only placed at this distance from three tries. However, after racing at the group level, this is a good chance to win with a favorable draw and a top jockey change to Hugh Bowman.

3 – Happy Together – Draw 2

He’s only won once at this distance from three ties, but he’s been improving in most of his races, winning a Group 3 a couple of starts back. Another favorable draw only enhances his chance here to run down this bunch at the end. He should be the favorite in the race, but you should get 3-1 odds because this is a good race.

12 – CP Brave – Draw 9

Here is my cloud running because he will be flying late. Last time at 2000m, he won by a neck with a big effort. He moves up in class again but has won at this distance in the past so take him back in the field, tuck in and get the trip and get room again to finish strong.

Race 10

13 – Talents Ambition – Draw 2

His first start in Hong Kong was good overall, running sixth by 13/4 lengths. He was bumped at the start and sat at the back of the field but rallied at the end. He needed the run because he had won twice from three starts before coming to Hong Kong. Add distance only helps his chances for his first win here.

9 – Soleil Fighter – Draw 14

He’s run twice in Hong Kong, showed big improvement in his second start, losing by a neck after an awkward start, and ran second most of the race. He is a winner outside of Hong Kong with eight starts, two wins, 1 second, and one third. I see lots of upside off the last race to run strongly again. Post position is my only issue.

3 – Illuminous – Draw 4

He came to Hong Kong with seven starts, one win, five seconds, and then won his first start in Hong Kong. It was an awful race the next time around with a poor start, I was taken back but was moving better at the end. Now, a favorable draw and adding 200m in distance only helps his chances return to good form as his from race in Hong Kong.

Rich’s Ranks

Race 6: LUNG KONG HANDICAP

3 – GOLDEN RISE – I feel like 1400 meters is the right distance  – no worse than 5th in 6 off the bench starts

7 – PATCH OF THETA – a pair of 2nds and 3rds in 4 starts – getting and extra 200 meters helps

10 – SMILING COLLECTOR – win – nah, but does run very competitively 1st up and at track/distance

2 – VOYAGE SAMURAI – won debut in a hard fought w2w win – plenty of ES in here too, concerned pace could be too hot

Race 7: THE QUEEN’S SILVER JUBILEE CUP

1 – LUCKY SWEYNESS – hard to pass on a horse that is 3/3 track/distance and winner 4/6 G1s

10 – GALAXY PATCH – big step up for sure – will be closing, extra 200 m helps, wins with ease in clean trips and still managed to hit the board when he finds trouble

3 – BEAUTY INTERNAL – Sha Tin at the Distance 4/3-1-0 – 1st up 3/2-0-1 – class is the question – does have a 2nd

5 – LUCKY WITH YOU – a couple of close seconds in a pair of G1s, 1st up record rocks too 4/3-1-0 – Sha Tin might not be his favorite place

Race 8: NGA TSIN WA HANDICAP

5 – SPARKLING KNIGHT – I don’t feel there is a lot of speed in here, short race, gets to the lead and stays there

4 – STELLAR EXPRES – hopefully gets overlooked, probably not with Zac Purton riding – ran strong in France – and could have a decided advantage with a 2024 race in the books – first in HK after 176 days on the sidelines

6 – BABY CRYSTAL – 1st up record 4/0-3-0 – tr/dis 5/1-3-0 everything says 2nd place  – just think the other two are better

2 – HEROIC MASTER almost always puts in a good race – I suspect he’ll do it again, but 2nd up is better

Race 9: SOUTH WALL HANDICAP

9 – RISING FROM ASHES – won his only race at the distance/track following a 4 month layoff

3 – HAPPY TOGETHER – is unbeaten in two at this level

7 – TOURBILLION DIAMOND – Tom horse, could win, but maybe too far behind early in a deep field, any trouble and a placing is more likely

11 – THE BEST PEACH – well, my dog’s name is Peach and I have to play her, this one will be moving aggressively at the end though

Race 10: TAK KU LING HANDICAP

13 – TALENTS AMBITION – made a strong late push in debut at 1400 meters, probably wins at today’s 1600

3 – ILLUMINOUS – is making his 3rd start of the year, a decided advantage in terms of race form

1 – UNIVERSAL HORIZON – hands down the best record at Sha Tin for this group

9 – SOLEIL FIGHTER – another that has the possible edge of a pair of races in 2024
