Newmarket Racecourse Horse Racing Picks and Analysis

22 to 1 Tom’s Tips

Race 1 – 1:50

2 – Flying Honours

His first race, a maiden here at Newmarket was average in the sense he got race experience but was never a threat to the leaders

The next 2 races were much better, winning novice at 7F at Sandown running on the lead, and going now to win by 9 1/2L

Traveled with the leaders in the next start and won by 5 1/2L at Salisbury

Back to Newmarket to try group 1 company should suit just fine in the small field.

He will have company on the lead

William Buick/Charlie Appleby

Bound for the Breeders Cup next?

3 – Greenland

It took 4 races for this horse to win for Aiden O’Brien and he did at Roscommon by going wire to wire

At the Curragh, he was outpaced at the end running in DH 5th for his first start

Next start, he made the lead and got caught going 1 mile

The 3rd start, before the winning effort, was in all kinds of trouble during the running of the race and had no chance to be right at the end

Ryan Moore/Aiden O’Brien

Breeder’s Cup???

Race 2 – 2:25

9 – Trillium

4 races 3 wins

You can dismiss her first start running 2nd because she didn’t break well from the gate

Good run next out with 4L win in a maiden race at Newbury

Face the males next out at Goodwood in group 3 and ran on the firm ground going:56.68 for 5F and winning 1 1/4L

Then just 13 days ago, she beat The Platinum Queen in group 2 at Doncaster, The Platinum Queen ran second to Highfield Princess in the Nunthorpe (that’s a race that allows 2yo to run in it) Highfield Princess was next start at the Curragh Group 1 race

She is targeted for the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile sprint and win or lose here she will be at Keeneland

2 – Lezoo

4 starts 3 wins

She started her racing career at Bath with a win at 5F

The next 2 races were at Newmarket, 1 win and 1 second in listed and group 2 company

Racing at Ascot last out, she won a 6F race by 1L group 3 race

Her only loss was against the males, ran 2nd

William Buick has the ride and switches from the 3 horse Malrescia

7 – Swingalong

Won last 2 races

Run at York in group 2 races at 6F, won by a neck at 25-1

Novice race at Ripon, won by 6L also at 6F

She’s run in 2 maiden races, one she faced by top choice Trillium and lost by 5 3/4L

This is more of an in-the-money bet for me

Race 3 – 3:00

8 – Zoology

1 race 1 win

Run in a novice race at Yarmouth was impressive at 6F winning margin 4L

He went wire to wire, increase at 3F, and cleared by 2F out, the comment line was “impressive”.

The time was good over the good to soft going

I think he’s the one to beat over the more experienced 2yo

6 – Persian Force

Raced 6 times with 3 wins and 3 seconds

He lost to Blackbread, Little Big Bear, and Bradsell by 1/2L, 7L, and 1 1/2L

He won this race in the group 2 race at 6F

His records show me that a in money finish is what he will do again

2 – Marshman

2 wins 1 second

Start with a maiden win at Ayr and had issues at the start

He ran “green” in his next win at Thirsk making all the running but was 8 1/2L win but had issues with 1F to go. Lazy?

Second last out, in group 2 by 11/4L, again he ran “green” and was wandering around in the final furlong

Jockey said he hung both ways in that final furlong

This is either a very good horse with bad habits or a horse that needs to mature.

Frontrunner?

Favorite but I can’t play on top vs these horses

Race 4

15 – Savvy Victory

Won last out at Goodwood in class 2 race for 3yo

Ran 2nd at Doncaster vs older horse but only 4 horse field

Prior races were in group 2, listed, group 3 with 3rds

So, we have a 3yo getting weight from an older, more established runners

Distance suits but can he repeat or just be an also ran

Ryan Moore in the saddle helps his chances

11 – Bell Rock

I really liked his last effort at Doncaster, made the lead, got headed in the final furlong, hung left (tired) but still had enough to get 3rd

Has won since 2021 but had been showing signs of life

He has tried group 3, listed, and class 3 races with some success but not winning ones

The trainer is weight off and putting up an apprentice rider for more weight off.

Put him on the lead and see if this distance and weight make the difference

22 – Carolus Magnus

12 starts 2 wins 2 seconds 5 thirds

Been running in handicap class 2 & 3 races going 7.5F to 9F with ok success but not winning and has won since Sept 2021

Distance is fine, he’s in the money 9 out of 12 times and likes the good going.

Put him in at a price

Race 5 – 4:15

3 – Angel De Luz

She’s a half-sister to Mystery Angel who placed in group races and listed winner, she won first out on the turf

Sire has produced good runners and he won first time out

Mare has produced 2 foals; both have won on AW and turf going distance

The trainer has sent out 42 2yo and 11 have won

My concern in the distance may be too short for her but what the heck

6 – Fools And Horses

Sire was a sprinter and group 1 winner, offspring have done well at all levels

Mare never won, she has produced 2 foals 1 winner and he has won handicaps and placed in group races, he’s a 5F specialist

Where my top 2 choices may want more distance, this one may be suited for 7F or shorter

5 – Edith Rigby

Gosden trained using an apprentice rider

The trainer is winning at a 22% rate with 2yo’s 64 runs 14 wins and 15 placings and 12 horse from 31 starters. He’s doing better on the AW with a 29% hit rate

Sire was a good sprinter and placed in group races, he has produced 32 group winners all over the globe

Mare never raced and this is her first foal, she is by Sea The Stars, top class producer of winners

Jockey in the last 14 days is 7 wins from 39 runs 18% win rate
