Newmarket Horse Racing Tips
22 to 1 Tom’s Tips
Race 3 – 2:50 – bet365 Mile Handicap Cl2 (3yo 0-100) 1m
4 – Royal Dubai – Draw 10
He ran in a 7F handicap class 2 at Chester and was making ground up for get second. He didn’t miss by much.
Won maiden in Dubai and then ran at absolute stinker next start by 66L.
Returning in May, he won a class 4 handicap at 7F by a neck.
He will be charging forward and see if get there in time.
Breeding suggests anything over 1 mile is a good distance for this horse.
3 – Havana Blue – Draw 1
The last 2 races were at Newmarket on both courses, and he won both of them in class 3 and class 4 company.
He moves up in class for this race and gains the services of Ryan Moore.
He also steps up in distance and it’s interesting with breeding because this should be all sprinter up to 6F but all but one race has been at 7F.
He appears to want a strong pace to aim at to win.
7 – Tafreej – Draw 5
He has been the favorite in his last five races and won 2 at this level.
His last race was at 1 mile, and he won at Yarmouth.
The trainer is using an apprentice rider with a 3lbs allowance.
Favorite again, but currently at attractive odds of 4-1.
Race 4 – 3:25 – bet365 Superlative Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (2yo) 7f
1 – City Of Troy – Draw 2
He won his maiden at the Curragh, only getting going at the end, and was difficult to pull up. He was the favorite that day and will be again.
The comment stated that he would look better going 1 mile or more and is interested in placement in a 7F race, but it’s a group 2, so he is looking for a black-type win.
The dam was a group 1 winner at 2yo and has produced winners.
The sire is Justify, and we know what he did.
10 – Spanish Phoenix – Draw 8
Won a maiden at Leicester by 6 1/2L and then ran 8th at Royal Ascot at 33-1.
But in the split of the horses into groups, he was 4th of 12 in the running of the race breaking from post 19 on the grandstand side.
He appears to want another furlong and has good form for this race.
The dam has another foal who won, but she never won with two tries.
The sire, this is his first crop and so far there have been 5 winners from 12 starters.
7 – Oddyssey – Draw 3
He hasn’t won yet but ran 3rd at Royal Ascot on odds of 125-1 in a listed race.
He ran 3rd in a group of 6.
He looked good in his first start at Yarmouth, so they thought why not try Royal Ascot?
He steps up in class, but if he runs anything like his last race, he will again run in the money.
Race 5 – 4:00 – bet365 Bunbury Cup (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (3yo+) 7f
1 – Shining Blue – Draw 9
He ran second last out at York after winning at York the race before.
The race was a listed race and before a class 2 handicap.
He ran three races in Dubai with one win and 1 third and did nothing in the race, but that was a big jump in class.
He’s top weight because of the win at 9-12 but won in class 2 carrying 10-2.
13 – Streets Of Gold – Draw 10
Only 3yo in the race and has group 3 or listed company in last 3 races but vs. 3yo’s.
He ran third twice in his last two races at 7F on the good to firm going.
A winner on soft and good to soft going and good to firm and good, so I don’t think the ground will be an issue.
He won last year at Newmarket on the July course.
You should get good odds, and let’s see what he can do against older horses with his weight allowance.
7 – Lethal Levi – Draw 12
He ran third last out on the all-weather at 6F.
The race before a handicap at Royal Ascot and did nothing.
He’s done well at the class 2 level and on this race course.
At Newmarket, he has run 3 times 2 wins 1 second.
The issue is he never won at 7F but ran once back in 2021 and ran second.
I give him a chance after his debut on the all-weather.
Race 6 – 4:35 – Pertemps Network July Cup Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) Cl1 (3yo+) 6f
6 – Azure Blue – Draw 1
This filly has won four in a row, and the last race beat Highfield Princess.
There is no question that 6F is her distance with a record on 13 starts 7 wins 2 seconds 1 third.
She has won on the July course 3 out of 3 times.
The trainer has done a masterful job of moving this horse up in class.
I think she’s the one to beat.
4 – Kinross – Draw 7
The first start of the season was at Royal Ascot in group 1 going 6F and it was a first start. Toss.
He ran in the Breeder’s Cup Turf Mile in November with a good third just missing second, won by Modern Games.
Prior to that race, he won four in a row including a group 1 win at Longchamp.
7 furlongs seems to be his best distance, but he does have one win from 5 tries.
He’s won on good to firm going but has done his best running on turf with some moisture in the going. This is my concern.
9 – Shaquille – Draw 9
He won last out at Royal Ascot in group 1 over 6F beating Little Big Bear.
He’s only lost one race in his 7-race career and that was at 7F.
He’s won 5 in a row.
He gets the 3yo weight allowance in here.
He will be the favorite.
Race 7 – 5:10 – Discover Newmarket Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 1m4f
9 – Hope You Can Run – Draw 1
Last two races, he’s run third both times in class 4 and class 3 handicaps.
First time visor in the last race but no match for the first 2 finishers.
The going may be the issue.
With a good to firm going predicted, this just may be to his liking to get him home first.
5 – Reina Del Mar – Draw 6
Won her last race going 12F at Newmarket July course easily in a class 5 handicap.
This is a jump-up in class, but she was very strong in her last race to dismiss her because she’s never tried class 3 company before.
Going the same distance today as last time, why not back her of a placing.
4 – Flying Frontier – Draw 10
He won his last 2 races in maiden and novice races going 9F and 10F.
Steps up in class and distance.
According to his breeding, the 12F distance may be good for him.
3yo vs older and hasn’t been beaten on the turf but moving from novice to class 3 is an interesting move.
He has a lot to prove here but I will give him a chance.
Rich’s Ranks
Race 3: Mile Handicap
1 – HIGHBANK – been running versus tougher, tossing out last, won debut at Newmarket with ease
5 – QUANTAM IMPACT – all or nothing 6/3-0-0 and can win on different surfaces – raining now
3 – HAVANA BLUE – Newmarket 3/2-1-0, just a length away from 3/3
12 – MILTEYE – never OTM at the distance, has run on a wet track
Race 4: Superlative Stakes
3 – GREAT TRUTH – won with ease as 73 cent favorite – lots of speed here and should stalk
1 – CITY OF TROY – won debut in a stakes race
4 – HAATEM – not all that far off in the G2 Coventry at Ascot
9 – SON – some issues in last race and still won – mid pack and going to rally
Race 5: Bunbury Cup
10 – RAINBOW FIRE – has run his best fresh like today – distance 5/3-0-0
8 – BIGGLES – distance 7/2-3-1 – Newmarket 1/0-1-0 and rarely runs a bad race
13 – STREETS OF GOLD – won his first five races, started out of form in 2023, looks like he is regaining his form improving in the last two
Race 6: July Cup Stakes
9 – SHAQUILLE – kind of hard to go against a horse that won 6/7, 4/4 at the distance and 1/1 at Newmarket
8 – LITTLE BIG BEAR – finished behind SHAQUILLE in last, was better backed by bettors
6 – AZURE BLUE – Newmarket 4/3-0-0 – winner four in a row
3 – KHAADEM – won more than a million at the distance, Newmarket 5/2-0-1, 3rd up
Race 7: Trustatrader for Tradespeople you can Trust Handicap
4 – FLYING FRONTIER – is a length away from being undefeated in 3, looks like the longer the race the better and today is the longest in his career
7 – CRYSTAL MARINER – should be forwardly placed with some late race ability
3 – DAVIDEO – volatile type, threat to win and threat to finish way behind all of them
6 – HIDDEN STORY – maybe benefits from the rain softening the course
