Q&A with Gulfstream Park’s Claudia Spadaro

HRR: You grew up in Venezuela, tell us about time there and how you were introduced to horse racing?

Claudia Spadaro: Yes, I was born in Venezuela! And since I was a little girl, I used to go to the track with my dad every weekend.

HRR: You went to the U, the University of Miami. What made you choose Miami?

Claudia Spadaro: I moved to Miami when I was 16 years old! I worked really hard to get into UM where I studied Broadcast Journalism and Public Relations.

HRR: When you aren’t at the track, what do you do for fun?

Claudia Spadaro: I eat! I love to eat! I spend time with my family and friends!

HRR: In another interview, you said, “I am an amazing cook.” Have you ever thought about going on a show like Gordon Ramsay’s Master Chef?

Claudia Spadaro: LOL, my parents will definitely go and with! I, on the other hand, do my best.

HRR: Of all your amazing dishes, what is your number one meal?

Claudia Spadaro: Desert! Or anything with sugar.

HRR: Care to share the recipe?

Claudia Spadaro: I would, but it’s too long.

HRR: How did you get into horse racing media and was it your first choice?

Claudia Spadaro: I used to do all my projects about horse racing when I was at the university. So, I went to Gulfstream Park to shoot a documentary about the Florida Derby!

HRR: One of your favorite bets is the pick 6. To keep the ticket price in check, that means you need to find some singles, what is your favorite handicapping angle and why?

Claudia Spadaro: It’s a combination of a lot of things, the time, the distance, the speed, the jockey…

HRR: Working Gulfstream, what track specific angles have you discovered?

Claudia Spadaro: It’s a fast track! And you need to keep an eye on the weather because in Miami it can change anytime and that changes everything in this track.

HRR: You are a soccer, tennis and basketball fan. First, why AC Roma?

Claudia Spadaro: Because my dad was a number 1 fan of Roma. I love tennis, my favorite player is Juan Martin del Potro, and I am a huge Miami Heat Fan.

HRR: Imagine you get a phone call from the ATP, NBA or any of the world’s major soccer leagues and they say, “Claudia, we want you to join our broadcasting team.” Which would you pick and why?

Claudia Spadaro: Yesssss, ESPN tennis! But I love horse racing too much, I would not leave.

HRR: Finally, you said you know it’s going to be a good day when “It’s sunny and I’m drinking my coffee with some music.” Ok, sunny in Miami, that’s almost every day. What’s the coffee and what type of music?

Claudia Spadaro: A strong espresso, this whole week I have been listening to You’re the Inspiration from Chicago – LOL – and Your Man, a really cool country song.
