Race 10: Jonathan B. Schuster Memorial

12 – Ivar finished 3rd in his in his last race, drops in class today and he is one for one at today’s distance. Regular rider Smokin Joe Talamo is in the irons, and he has a good 5F workout on Jun-28. He will be closing like a freight train to win the race.

1 –   Somelikeithotbrown finished in the money in five out of the last six races, finishing 5th in the last race as the favorite but the trainer wins 22% of the races when bringing a beaten favorite back to race again. He has the highest speed figure at today’s distance and his best turf speed is fastest among today’s starters.

6 –   Duke of Hazzard came in from Europe and in his first race he ran 6th after being bumped at the start and then in his second race the Seek Again-100k stakes race he ran 2nd at Belmont Park.

8 –   Leading the Charge has finished in the money in his last eight races, winning six of the races. He is moving up in class but loves to win and I like horses going up in class as you can get a good payoff if things work out. He won his last race at Horseshoe Indianapolis and the trainer wins 22% of the races when bringing the winner of their last race to run again.

5 –   Interstatedaydream won the Black-Eyed Susan at Pimlico in her last race. She can either go to the front and lead to the finish line or close to catchthe front runners to win a race. Jockey Florent Geroux rode her in her last three races and returns to ride again. High % winning trainer Brad Cox trains her, she has the highest last race speed rating, and her best dirt speed is fastest among today’s starters.

3 –   Patna is another entry trained by Brad Cox and has won two races in a row, including the last one at Churchill Downs. She comes from good breeding as her Sire is Into Mischief out of (Harlan’s Holiday) and she has a good workout on 02Jly CD 5f ft 1:00.2 B 6/26.

4 –   Silverleaf has finished in the money in four out of her five career races, breaking her maiden in her last race by nine lengths. She is trained by Kenneth McPeek who is winning at a 17% clip this year, and she is ridden by Brian Hernandez, Jr. who returns to ride her after he took her to a win in her last race.

7 –   Runaway Wife finished in in the money in her last three races, increasing her speed rating in each of the three races. She ran 2nd as the favorite in her last race but the trainer wins 26% of the time when bringing back a beaten favorite to race again. She will stay close to the leaders and try to close in the stretch for the win.

7 –   Best Actor has won both of his career races easily, winning one by leading all the way and winning the other by closing from off the pace to win. He is trained by Brad Cox and ridden by jockey Florent Geroux.

3 –   Mowins finished in in the money in seven out of eight career races, winning four of the races. Veteran jockey Jon Court returns to ride him again after winning with him by five lengths in his last race. He has a good 4F workout on Jul-04.– (Also entered in the 9th Race may get scratched)

8-    Actuator took an eight-month break, returned to Churchill for his first race and won easily by seven lengths. He has a bullet workout on 02Jly CD 5f ft :59.1 B 1/26.

6 –   Rattle N Roll won the American Derbyn-200k in his last race at today’s distance and got the highest last race speed rating and his best dirt speed is fastest among today’s starters.

5 –   New Year’s Fever is undefeated in 2 career starts – (Replacement if Mowins is scratched)

Race 10: Jonathan B. Schuster Memorial

PACE PROJECTION: When the gates open it appears the early lead will be between the #1 SOMELIKEITHOTBROWN and #4 RUNNIN’ RAY. There are a few others that could be close as well, but this race shouldn’t have to fast of a pace.

#1 SOMELIKEITHOTBROWN– Making his second start after a 6 month layoff.  In the first race off the layoff had a bumped start which didn’t help things. This time I think he gets a good start and should have good position either on the lead or right behind the potential early leader #4 RUNNIN’ RAY.

#6 DUKE OF HAZARD– This horse has a lot going for it with a lot of positive additions. New barn Wesley Ward, first time Lasix, 3rd start in US, and 2nd start back after 8-month layoff.  He will also be close to the early pace.

#12 IVAR– After running in 5 straight Grade I races he finally gets some class relief. Has not raced in over 8 months so I would be skeptical to take him to win at a short price but definitely fits here.  Last 2 workouts have been sharp so he should be ready to go.

Plays:  $20 win #1 $2 exbox 1,6

Horseshoe Indianapolis Race 11: Indiana Oaks G III

PACE PROJECTION:  The early leader is coming somewhere from the middle in this race as there are 3 horses that could get the early lead. They are the #3 PATNA, #4 SILVERLEAF, and the #5 INTERSTATEDAYDREAM. This has the potential for a quick early pace my only hesitation is 2 of the horses have the same trainer, so will they really go out each other for the early lead?

#5 INTERSTATEDAYDREAM–  She Has won 3 of 5 races while never missing the trifecta. She gets some class relief here and this is an easier spot than what she has been facing. This will be her 6th career race and her 6th career different track. Brad Cox has two in here and chose to put his top Jockey on this one.

#1 CANDY RIDE– She needs some pace to run at and may get here. I’m also hoping with a different jockey and some really sharp workouts of late she isn’t as far behind. If she can stay closer to the pace she will have the late kick to win this race. Goes from Turf back to dirt where she has been a lot more successful.

#3 PATNA– She has early speed and may get it or just sit off her stable mate. She moves up in class but so far in her career when she is towards the front early she wins. Gets the top local Jockey.

PLAYS: $20 win #5 $1 Exbox 1,3,5 $1 Tribox 1,3,5

Horseshoe Indianapolis Race 12: Indiana Derby G III

PACE PROJECTION:  There doesn’t seem to be a lot of early pace in this field. Ones that want to try for the lead would be #2 FIRST GLIMPSE, #3 MOWINS, and maybe the #7 BEST ACTOR.

#7 BEST ACTOR– He has done nothing wrong winning his first 2 starts. There’s not a lot of pace in here and he wants to be on it or close to it.  Won on both a sloppy and fast track. Not impressed with the rest of the field so this horse should be the favorite if he’s not even better for those that like him.

#4 KING OTTOMAN–  Broke his maiden last time out which was the toughest race he has ever been in.  Was consistent before that race so maybe he figured something out.  Gets the leading local rider.

#8 ACTUATOR– He broke his maiden last time out which was the first time he ran on dirt and he did it impressively. Gets James Graham aboard again and could be close to the pace in what I expect to be a comfortable pace for the leaders.

PLAYS:  $30 win #7 $1 Exbox 4,7,8 $1 tribox 4,7,8

22 to 1 Tom’s Tips

Race 10: Jonathan B. Schuster Memorial

8 – Leading The Charge

Local runner with 7 wins from 12 starts at Indy

Won last off layoff vs OC40 at 1 mile

With lots of speed in this race, should sit 2 wide moving at the end

Big odds

1 – Somelikeithotbrown

Rail and speed should help chances here

First start of season, flashed speed as always after a poor start, bumped of the lead and could hold it and lost by 3L, restricted race for NY-breds

Grade 2 winner with 9 starts at distance with 4 wins 4 seconds

Needed race and this looks like a good spot

12 – Ivar

Coming off a layoff after a run in the Breeder’s Cup Mile missing by 1 1/2L

Out of the 12 post.

Last 5 races at grade 1 level with 1 win at Keeneland

My concern is the post position and the layoff, he’s never won off a layoff but has placed

Favorite but very beatable in this race

Horseshoe Indianapolis Race 11: Indiana Oaks G III

5 – Interstatedaydream

Won last at Pimlico by sitting out in 2nd and moved at the end grade 2 Black Eyed Susan

No match against Nest in the Ashland at Keeneland, flashing speed in the mud/wet fast going. May prefer a fast track

Good debut for the season at Oaklawn OC80k with win

One to beat – favorite

3 – Patna

Won moved turf race last out in OC80 at CD going 1 turn mile

Maiden win was showing speed and held, game effort

Well bred and should continue to want longer distances and 2 turn should be an issue.

Stablemate looks better but a 1 – 2 Brad Cox finish looks good to me

2 – Napa Candy

Only a maiden winner at Keeneland and they 2 races at OC80k level that are forgettable but did move wide in both races with starting post of 9 and 12.

Good work :47.4B and 2 turns with help this daughter of Candy Ride

Win? No, placing at odds is what I am looking for from this horse

Horseshoe Indianapolis Race 12: Indiana Derby G III

8 – Actuator

Big win last out at CD going 7F by 7 plus. 10 post, good start, up front and took the lead and went on

2 thirds at Indy on the turf at 2yr but the move to dirt proved the key

The 2 prep works at excellent :59.1B and :47B

2 turns already tried on turf and this is one that’s coming to form nicely

7 – Best Actor

2 for 2 with the last being a CD moved from the turf (course conditions) and won by 4L winning from 11 post

Won in the slop at Oaklawn with a tougher race going 1 1/16 in maiden.

Works are average but this is a Brad Cox horse on the way up?

6 – Rattle N Roll

Won last at CD being 3W, pressed and came out on top. Best speed rating of his career

Won a grade 1 at 2yr and frankly they had KY Derby in their eyes but he didn’t have it in him.

2 ok races leading up to his win but didn’t have enough left at the end to catch the winners

Big favorite and I predict he will bounce off that effort
