Jockey and HorseRacingToday.net friend, Tyler Conner shares his thoughts on his mounts tonight at Penn National Racetrack:
Race 1 – GRAB THE GOLD
This horse is naturally very fast, I don’t think he really needs the lead, but he loves being there. That being said the 5 horse also has a ton of speed so I’d really like to avoid a heads-up duel down the backside. He’s been training and working great after the lay off so I’m going to leave there running and try to get alone in front.
Race 3 – HONESTA
This little mare has been running pretty well for me overall. She really lagged early last time so I’m hoping she can be a little more fresh today to be able to sit a little closest down the backside. She typically shows a lot of run the last 1/4 so if I can stay a little closer than last time, she should be able to make it interesting!
Race 5 – NICE WEATHER
This horse ran a really nice race last time. I’d really like to be able to get the same trip but the whole race is full of speed. I will try to break running and see if I can create some separation early so my horse doesn’t feel pressure the whole race. Even if I don’t make the lead, I would like to be able to sit clear and be in a comfortable stalking position
Race 7 – QUEEN ROSEMARY
This mare really improved in her last start. She handled the trip behind horses really well last time and didn’t mind running into the pocket. From the 1 hole I plan on being aggressive to get position and if I can stalk just like last time while saving ground, we should be able to get a good trip with the amount of speed in the race
Race 8 – WOW FACTOR
I really like the outside post with this filly, although she tends to lean out around the turn on me i think she is more comfortable on the outside of horses, so I like that I will be able to get aggressive from the gate and stalk the speed to my inside. If she breaks in front, I’d also be really happy cruising to the lead with her and hope she keeps on like when she broke her maiden!
