West Coast Action Recap: Santa Margarita Stakes – Grade II

By: Nancy Wilkinson
The Santa Margarita Stakes ended up being well worth the wait as the Bob Baffert trained Seismic Beauty was well ready for this next step in the Grade II event. Racing under the silks for My Race horse, Seismic Beauty made her stakes debut in brilliant fashion breaking from the gate right to the top spot she lead the entire race and it just looked like a paid workout for her, it was felt she would go the distance after her brilliant performance in her last start which she won by 10 lengths.

The Santa Margarita saw her strike again and went onto win by 5 lengths ahead of her stablemate Splendora ridden by Juan Hernandez and was the morning line favorite, JJ had his choice to ride either Splendora or Seismic Beauty he opted for Splendora, giving the call to Antonio Fresu for Seismic Beauty she went off as second choice, they always say look out for the other Baffert.
Seismic Beauty has now earned her third win in six starts; she has never been off the board and things look bright as she moves up the ladder even more.
The Santa Margarita was a $200,000 stakes event contested at 1 1/8 of a mile for Fillies and Mares. Seismic Beauty turn 4 this year, she also clocked the race in 1:48.30 making it the one of fastest run Santa Margarita since 2012.
Seismic Beauty is a daughter by the late stallion Uncle Mo who was shown to be one of the best stallions around till sadly he was loss at the age of 16 in 2024.
