22 to 1 Tom’s Tips

Race 5 – Down Syndrome Victoria Jim Moloney Stakes (LR)

8 – Aprilia – Draw 9

She had a troubled race last out at Moonee Valley and came on at the end. She’s had some good runs in New Zealand. She has a second in a group 1 at this distance.

5 – Coco Sun – Draw 13

Undefeated with wins coming from just off the pace, the last race was also a listed race at 1400m; they are not getting too aggressive with this horse in race placement.

13 – Amazonian Lass – Draw 15

Has been racing against group company in the last three races without success, drops here, takes the blinker off, and adds distance. This may get her back in form at a proper level.

Race 6 – Equine Pathways Lamaro’s Testa Rossa (LR)

5 – Corner Pocket – Draw 5

He returned to the races after seven months off and got going late to pick up third in the open-class race, a needed race. This horse has seven starts at this distance and five wins. He’s won at this level before. Coming into form off the first race back.

6 – Savannah Cloud – Draw 3

Last race, he moved up in the middle of the race but didn’t have the closing kick to finish. First start back, he won a listed race sitting third most of the race. At this distance, six starts two wins and three placings suggest a good run here vs this group.

10 – Amenable – Draw 10

Tried Group 1 company last time out and ran an ok fifth considering he blew the start. At winner in a BM84 race before and now they appear to be looking for the right spot to get another win. 4yo with a good record at this distance.

Race 7 – Neds Caulfield Guineas Prelude (G3)

3 – Steparty – Draw 8

4 for 4 in his race career, won at this distance, first group race after winning a listed race, a short price last time, and will be again.

13 – Rock Empire – Draw 1

A one-race career with a maiden win stalked the leader and went clear. The Comment was interesting: “He was a level above” in this race. Steps up in see if he is a step above.

6 – Scentify – Draw 3

After being off, he returned to win his first start and a good second in a listed race at Moonee Valley. Sat behind and picked it up in the end. He steps up here, never ran the distance, but hasn’t been out of the money in his three races.

Race 8 – Catanach’s Jewellers MRC Foundation Cup (G3)

12 – Berkeley Square – Draw 9

He had some issues in the running of his last race and finished 7th and kept on. He’s won at this distance and has a group 2 win. They are putting blinkers on for the first time so is this enough to get a win? Maybe.

9 – Virtuous Circle – Draw 7

In his last five races, he’s run against group 1 or 2 horses, running second in one of those races and showing little in the others. Second up off layoff, he has three starts 1 win 1 placing. Take a price shot her to improve.

5 – Goldman – Draw 18

The last race was off a five-month layoff and ran without cover, dropped back in the stretch, and ran 9th. This was a group 2 race. Overall either first up or second up, he’s done well, three starts, 2 wins. I think he needed at race, but this is technically a step-down but more a step-up based on previous level races.

Race 9 – Live Life Foundation Underwood Stakes (G1)

5 – Tuvalu – Draw 13Two races since layoff and ran 4th in the first one, then ran 3rd last time. Both these races were Group 2 races. Coming to form for this race? One try at this distance and won, and three up, he has 3 starts 2 wins 1 placing. He was trying at the end in the last race, short on conditioning. Now he wins.

6 – Smokin’ Romans – Draw 14

A reasonable run last out, he was behind the leader look like he would go forward but didn’t to run 6th. This is another one coming off a layoff and has won second up before. Never run this distance but is a group 1 and group 3 winner and has won at distances between 1500m to 2500m. He will have something to say at the end of this race.

13 – Lindermann – Draw 3

Last out was a big improvement over the previous race, running fourth. He’s a front-runner and was overwhelmed by the later chargers. He is a Group 1 winner, adds distance, placed at his distance in the past. If Hugh Bowman sets a reasonable pace and doesn’t get caught up is a speed duel with Alligator Blood, he is there at the end.
